aslong as its not in the food. with the other meds that should be okay. you just dont want the fish to ingest that. if the food is all dry and you are concerned about contamination, put the food in small tupperware containers.,

maybe try a 25% water change daily for a week. that may help get all the sh*t out of there.

if it is a male it is very sub dominant. i know lil about this species, but it is a cichlid. watch behavior and feeding and of course look for egg spots. how old are these guys?

they will show absolutely no parental behavior. actually each lil fry look like a small roast to them. they to the best of my knowledge don`t easily breed, but i still think cardinal tetras may be a good choice for you. easy to keep plus you can have alot with a small tank....and they are always on the move....

convicts as i have seen can get very aggressive and you can`t stop them from breeding. they are the guppy of the cichlid world. also for sale they are worth very little 9 at least in Canada) since they do so readily breed.btw....i wasn`t meaning ANY disrespect to Carl. we have all had very very different experiences with certain fish.

it always depends on the quality of the model and the care taken.also....some brands are prone to certain things.....ie, fluvals seem to get bad props from my experience. if you keep them clean and not let them get plugged, that will greatly increase the life of the filter. i had clients with 20 year old filters that had better flow than my brand new ones.

i would keep feeding to a minimum for the time being. sam is right too....just because he looks cured, I would still continue the treatment. the disease could just be in remission temporarily. you actually were very lucky....dropsy is usually fatal because by the time the pineconing is noticable the disease has already progressed pretty far. as for the odd swimming....have you changed anything in the tank. maybe moved the filter or added a powerhead? sounds more like he is fighting a current. especially since his body is moving but he isnt getting anywhere. can he keep his buoyancy in the tank....does he fight to get lower in the tank?

if you end up having to seal later....take your filter, media, water....everything and put it in 2 five gallon buckets. with filtration and water movement they will be fin once you properly repair your tank. don`t skimp on silicone curing time tho.....very important. i always double what the directions say. i normally give 48 hours instead of 24 just to be safe.
