when netting fish, they tend to only see the danger in front of them. i use 2 nets....one makes them turn around and jump right into the net behind them....sounds odd....but works great

that is very true 8....but the goldies have an incredible resilliance. they lived in my malawi tank at 78 degrees and 7.9 ph. the goldie became a cichlid. stopped scrounging the bottom and started acting just like the cichlids

i agree with carl and john as well. it always seems if the cardinal survives the trip home and the acclimation (this is where they seem most susseptible),they are very hardy and entertaining. I think cardinals is a MUCH better choice than neons. they also get bigger than neons. also, as far as PH, i have seen them healthy in anything from 6-8 ph. they are very adaptive.

it does sound like dropsy to me as well. Kanaplex is a great medication to start with as well....for those that don`t know....it treats fungal and bacterial infections. the drug is actually called kanamycin.

instead of the neons....there bare cardinal tetras which look alot alike but are MUCH brighter. in a 5 gallon....I bet 5 could live happy. they are a schooler.....so 5 imo is the minimum. they are also very very hardy if they survive the first 2 days in your tank....
