So, with my oto and pleco in the new tank, there's no algae yet. And these guys won't eat algae waffers, or haven't yet.
Half the problem is that the goldfish find them and eat them up before they even have a chance to check out what the heck it is. And really they just don't touch them when there used to be so much algae in the tank already.
Anyways, there's no algae so they're gunna hafta eat. Is there a way I can train them to eat them? My older pleco used to just absolutely love algae waffers and smelled them from a mile away and had them gone so fast.

how big and old is your pleco? is your tank near natural light? I have one window in my office that I keep covered so no light comes in - no algae......green anyway - had problems w/ brown algae for a while in my newly established tanks.......good luck! plecos are very resourceful - just watch your nitrates and ammonia - both species poop a lot as you well know!

Not sure how big your goldy's are? But I have a hollow log in my tank that I hide the waffers in. My goldys can't fit their fat bodys in. all tho when my black moor was smaller he got stuck in there. Was kinda funny. I do it right before I turn out the lights for bed time.

Feed your plecos late at night. I once and a pleco and my goldfish would nibble on the wafer alle evning and then I'd wonder where all of it could have gone to in the morning since it was so big compared to my goldfish at the time. The goldfish also used to accidently nibble on th pleco if it stayed too still and the goldfish were searching the gravel. lol

So, I hid his waffer in the broken pot ornament I have in the tank and he's sort of claimed this area as his home now, it's rather funny.
He did find it, after it soaked in the water for awhile I could tell he could smell it cause he came flying out of hiding and went hunting for it. Once he found it he refused to leave the pot and everytime a goldfish swam by he would dart out of one of the holes in the pot to try and 'scare' the fish away from his home. It was hilarious to watch. I'm glad he found them and caught onto the fact that they were food so fast.
Only thing is that the oto hasn't taken to the waffers yet :S dunno what to do with him

Good news on the Plec!
As to the Oto Catfish, in my experience these are more pure/true algae eaters and this is not unusual for an Oto Cat to not eat an algae wafer. As long as there is at least a little algae, I think your Oto should be fine, and likely if you see no algae, the Oto Cat is Why!
Just watch your oto for thiness.

okie dokie, I actually am already starting to see some algae grow in the tank, which is a good sign that the tank is all right and properly cycled and stuff right? So yay that's a good sign.
