in my snail experience, crushing them doesnt cause a population explosion that should happen if squishing them releases eggs. if it did , logic would say that snails would be a way bigger thorn in many aquariests sides than they really are. if you are still concerned, quite squishing and get a loach...they`ll look after em`....good luck keeping these guys populations down....

my recomendation is to do as lil as possible. this fish is getting old....just keep it as comfy as possible with good water and good food. the wondershell is a great idea to keep the water healthy...and maybe a MB bath, at least until there are symptoms from others in the tank...just my 2 cents...

hmmmm....why not try brackish....it`ll give you a lil more knowledge as to using larger amounts of salt and puffers make great big tank friends...

you are right...RO lacks ALOT....but using 50/50 with tap works well along with adding buffers and trace elements.

marine tanks are great fun. as you know i even keep an octopus....but be aware, marine tanks can be very expensive when compared to FW. as well...be aware too that livestock is expensive and you NEED to do homework with every purchase. many many combos won`t work and ther are alot of poisonous critters that have to be treated accordingly....

that is always a great idea....most of those cartridges can be busted open and refilled by you....even if it means using a zap strap or two...

what i recomend is to get some filter media, gravel, or something porous from a trusted well established tank. this is the quickest way and your LFS are usually more than happy to donate some for you. as to the ph...that is going to depend alot on your water to start with as well as a few other factors. the easiest way is to buy a ph buffer to add to the water. you can also use different substrates and some kinds of wood to change ph depending on which way you need it to go...

do you have an internal filter? if so...these may be tiny air bubbles and if this is the case, you can move the filter down an inch and the bubbles should stop...

the needlenose actually isnt a true gar...but they look like one so they get called this. as far as the flowerhorn goes...there may be videos out there....but those could be very lucky ppl....plus if the arowana is there first that would increase the odds. flowerhorns should be kept with nothing and i have scars to prove it. as far as the ray goes.....rays are very easy to nip on from many cichlids. at this point....the ray is so stressed it sucumbs to many types of infections etc. a ray has very little protection against tank predation....
btw....look on youtube for flowerhorns....most where the people arent feeding them for camerA are alone. the responsible owners love their FH and in doing so...keep them alone.

hope i dont sound rude....but a flowerhorn will kill anything you put in with it.the motoro wont last a week and unless the arrowana is 3 or 4 feet long...the FH will kill it in a few days. flowerhorns are a solo tank animal....they DO NOT play well with others....
the small needlenose will become prey to the rays if the ray can catch it and they will be eaten by the arrowana if they can get caught. severums go well with rays.... as can vieja`s....

they are tough to id since they change color AND texture. I signed up for a ceph forum and one of the moderators there said his arms are very thick to be acleautus but we are awaiting the pro ID`R there to respond. he has turned out to be so much fun and he does touch me. i put my hand in the tank and he will gently and curiously touch me for 2 or 3 seconds with an arm or 2. he is so funny looking he`s cute...lol.
BTW Renee....where he is looking blue like a starfish IS actually a starfish. i added that pic cause his stomach was outside his mouth. I have 2 blue starfish. they are vegetarian starfish that are reef safe...

do a series of 25% water changes every day or so. in the future it is best to rinse new sand very well before adding. also clean your filter every other day and this should work well. as well.....if this is a brand new set-up, you CAN`T add the rays yet. they are very sensitive to water conditions. it needs to be a well cycled tank with perfect perimeters. a tank mate that will do well with them are severums. i recommend after a week or 2 of cycling add a couple tank mates that you are planning. the rays are a big investment so it needs to be done right. and by doing this you will have a very intelligent and loving pet for a long time into the future...
