Um ok well this is pretty serious. I got my 180gallon tank and have it filled with water which is at the right temp, water's crystal clear. But last night i got 300lbs of silicone sand to put in my tank for when i get my ray and the water got VERY cloudy so i waited till morning and its still a thick greenish colour! i turned off my filter when we put the sand in and turned it on in the morning and it hasnt helped to much but its only been on for a hour or so. I dont know what to do! Please help me. Should i change out ALL the water or what? any help is appreciated! thank you.

do a series of 25% water changes every day or so. in the future it is best to rinse new sand very well before adding. also clean your filter every other day and this should work well. as well.....if this is a brand new set-up, you CAN`T add the rays yet. they are very sensitive to water conditions. it needs to be a well cycled tank with perfect perimeters. a tank mate that will do well with them are severums. i recommend after a week or 2 of cycling add a couple tank mates that you are planning. the rays are a big investment so it needs to be done right. and by doing this you will have a very intelligent and loving pet for a long time into the future...

im not sure if it will hurt them if the water is still a tad murky... i mean i can see through the whole 6 feet of the tank if i look through the side to the other side but its not crystal clear.

It often takes some time to be perfectly clear (a few weeks depending upon bio filter and the progression of the nitrogen cycle/cycling) As bikeguy noted, I would wait for the Rays until your aquarium is 100%, which likely will take 6-8 weeks. Also once your tank is cycled, I would strongly consider a properly installed UV Sterilizer for disease prevention and improved Redox to help protect your investment in the Rays. See UV SterilizationCarl

thinkin bout a motoro ray silver arowana and a flower horn or two needle nose gars.

hope i dont sound rude....but a flowerhorn will kill anything you put in with it.the motoro wont last a week and unless the arrowana is 3 or 4 feet long...the FH will kill it in a few days. flowerhorns are a solo tank animal....they DO NOT play well with others....
the small needlenose will become prey to the rays if the ray can catch it and they will be eaten by the arrowana if they can get caught. severums go well with rays.... as can vieja`s....

the needlenose actually isnt a true gar...but they look like one so they get called this. as far as the flowerhorn goes...there may be videos out there....but those could be very lucky ppl....plus if the arowana is there first that would increase the odds. flowerhorns should be kept with nothing and i have scars to prove it. as far as the ray goes.....rays are very easy to nip on from many cichlids. at this point....the ray is so stressed it sucumbs to many types of infections etc. a ray has very little protection against tank predation....
btw....look on youtube for flowerhorns....most where the people arent feeding them for camerA are alone. the responsible owners love their FH and in doing so...keep them alone.

You can find just about anything on YouTube, as well many of the comments by so-called experts on my videos are laughable. YouTube is like Yahoo Answers, be very careful using these as sources of information. My point is just by looking at the aquarium with the Flowerhorn and Arowana these fish will likely not do well long term. Also the stress of such a tank would likely make keeping a Ray healthy very difficult (as noted by bikeguy). Also see this article: Aquarium Answers, Size/ StuntingCarl
