If he hangs out with the tetras, I wouldn't worry about it too muhc then. Afterall, you can't keep rasboras forever just like I had to give up on breeding bettas. Hope all goes well. I think I'm in love with your white betta. XD Thanks, Renee! I really like her too. I'd love her even more if she wasn't such a snot to the red one. Oh well, she's very spunky and I'm looking forward to seeing how she fares in the 30 gallon.

Don't give up! Are you sure the new bigger tank has completely cycled? Really the only way to get it under control to where the beneficial bacteria can take over is to do daily (possibly twice daily) water changes. When I started my 10 gallon, it took almost 6 months to cycle.
Do you have any healthy filter media from another tank (or someone's tank that you trust is healthy)? If so, then you could seed it with that.
How many fish did you add to the tank when it was ready?

Fish is about all I could handle. I would hate to clean up fur and poo and whatever else from a land animal.
I'm going to have to move the pink one out tomorrow, if not tonight. She has been pretty relentless in her mean-ness to the red one. I want to leave the red one in so that her fins can heal up. Not sure what to do after that.

I've thought about that too. I'm sure he is a little bit lonely. I used to have 3 rasboras, but one got sick and died, the other died of old age. I liked them, but I'm going to take a break from them, so I'm not buying any more for a while. He hangs out with the tetras and rainbows, but it's probably not the same as having your own relatives around...
The one that died of old age was an accident. I wanted head and tail lights, and when I got home, I realized I had a scissortail! I think he grew up believing he was a head and tail light, lol.

I don't think there would be any problems with the other fish. I've got 6 celebes rainbows, 2 head and tail light tetras, 1 cherry barb, 1 SAE, 1 flying fox, and 1 cory (he's still alive!) Everyone in there gets along great from what I can tell.
I am thinking that I might get a couple more females like Renee mentions. That way either Pinky's aggression can get spread around or I'll get one that's even snottier than her to show her who's boss. That's a couple weeks down the road though.
It will be nice to get a little bit of color in the 30 again. Other than my cherry barb, it's all black, white and silver fish in there since I took out the platies!

My new pink betta is definitely turning into a dominant snot. The red one's tail fin has taken a little bit of a hit. Not severe, but noticeable. Do you think that if I put them into the 30, they'd be ok? There should be enough room there for the 2 of them. There are lots of hiding places. I will probably wait at least a few more days, just to be sure they are not sick, I've only had them since Tuesday afternoon.

If that's what you're getting at, mine don't jump out of fear, they jump for joy. I drop a pellet into their water, then they give a look like they're focusing and preparing to jump. Read, aim, fire! I didn't mean that yours jump out of fear. I was talking about my rasbora. He's very jumpy when the tank light isn't on. He's afraid of dark even if it's not dark in the room! lol Jasper my old CT would try to jump for food every time I opened the lid, like it sounds like yours do. None of my current bettas do that. At least not yet.

Thanks everyone! Mine haven't figured out feeding time yet. I feed them yesterday and they just kind of wandered around and stared at the food before deciding to eat it. I hope mine aren't jumpers! It stresses me out too much when they do that! My scissortail rasbora jumps almost every time someone walks into the den if the tank light isn't on. He's such a big sissy!

That's a shame that they only do VT's. Petsmart does sell Crowntail males too, but either they don't stock as many or they sell faster because I've only ever seen a couple of them. They are more $$ than VT's, so they probably only stock a few. Jasper was a CT and I bought him at a big box. But just think of what they are depriving their customers of by only selling a couple varieties!

My new girls were extremely cooperative during Picture Time a little while ago. These are the best pics I've ever taken of fish. Here is Pinky. She's asserting herself as the dominant so far. Here is another shot. She has a little black dot on her head/back. I'm hoping it's just a birthmark or something. Here's red. She's a little timid. Here's Sally in the 10. My good picture luck ran out when I decided to try some pics of the 10.

Wow, she's a good jumper. I haven't had any problems with Sally jumping around. She's pretty laid back. Finn isn't much for jumping either. But Jasper would jump trying to get food too.
We'll see how these 2 new ones are. Now that they are settling in a little, they occasionally snip at each other when they are nearby. Hopefully they'll get their differences sorted out quickly, lol.

I haven't completely figured out what to do with them yet. Right now I have them in the 5 gal. I will either put them in the 30 gallon (and return Sally my other female to it as well), or move them to the 10 gallon with Sally and 6 white clouds. I also have 3 platies in the 10, but I could move them to the 30. Too many options, but I have time to think about it. I am also open to suggestions, lol. Need to make sure neither of them are sick first. Plus, it's getting late and I am sleepy!
They're both veiltails. One is a light reddish and the other is a pale pale pink, almost white with a blue tint to her fins. Very pretty. Pics coming soon. I didn't have a light on them today, so give them some time to settle in a bit.
Is it just my Petsmart, or do all big box stores only sell veil tail females? I'll have to notice what the regular lfs sells next time I'm there. It's hard there though, because they keep their females way high up on top of their tanks...

I went to Petsmart today because I had a coupon and I thought I'd use it to get some carbon for my filter. They keep their betta display right by the door and I always have to look (even though I'm telling myself not to) and see what's there. They only had about 5 females there and one was really small and cute and I wanted to rescue her from cup life. But when I looked closely, she wasn't breathing very well and I picked up the cup and she just kind of floated to the bottom. Plus her fins were pretty clamped up. I felt bad, but I passed on her, then spotted 2 others that were very pretty and looked healthy. I couldn't decide which one to get, so I got both!!

I love the crocuses (sp?). We have them in our front yard. They are randomly sprinkled in with the grass in one section. It's kind of funny... here are some of mine with a little rubber ducky that I inherited from a college friend. I took a bunch of random pictures with the duck one day a few years ago and sent them to her as a joke.
