good afternoon all. I just got back from the calgary aquatic society auction. didn`t want to...but i made a purchase there. I bought a breeding pair of labeotropheus trewavasae. they are gorgeous . i just finished introducing them to the tank and so far so good. i am setting up a fry tank right now as i was told by the owner that these two have become prolific breeders. Also...I have a buyer for any fry this pair produce as long as I keep the line clean....wish me luck.

I have several tanks but only 1 set up right now....it is a 90 gallon and in it I have a couple very very rare species. up until today it was an all male tank as well. I have a 14" Vieja Synspilla, a 10" amphilonsi lyonsi, a foot long common pleco, a 7" squeeker catfish, and now the breeding pairs of the labeotropheus Trewavasae. I can`t add pics here cause I have tried to figure it out but doesnt seem to work. It hurts my head....lol.

Very cool...I'll have to check out what some of those are. For pics make a photobucket account and then just load the pics to photobucket. Once they are there just click on the IMG code below the pic and come on here and just click paste and it will put the pic right on here.

Congrats Bill on your labeotropheus trewavasae pair! I would try Brendas advice (Flicker is also available) and then you can easily post pictures. If you ever want to email them as an attachment as well, I can post them in the Members pictures. Carl

Nice pick up Bill, I've seen these around before, and I think you'll be quite pleased with these. They have a very nice blue body looking and suppliment that with the orange red looking dorsal fin. I picked up a few mixed ones off a local guy selling on eBay back in June, and I suspect I might have a couple of these myself, but hard to say until they get older. Of course if you can get these to breed, I wouldn't mind taking some from you.
So far it appears those marks on the body of my fish aren't really spreading. I was just surprised to see it at all after running a full course of meds. Found actually, in the 100 gallon tank, one of the snakeskin Gourami had like a white cake like formation around one of the eyes, not cloudy eye, but more like a white substance or something, almost like calcium or something, so I moved the pair over to the main tank. I should be getting John's Labs out this week too. That whole tank is doing good and very very active. I'm starting to see both Tilapia species I have acting just as you said, getting quite aggressive. Thanks to your advice of course Bill, I've been keeping a good eye on them. Lotje is out of town this weekend, she wanted to go over to Virginia and see her aunt and uncle, I just didn't feel like going and watching the Cowboys game, I so want to kick Romo in the arse lol.

I have only gotten good at it because I literally spent hrs one Saturday a few months back trying to figure it all out. I am pretty good at it now but that was not without practice!!! Nice fish though (thanks Carl for digging up a pic) they are beautiful!!!

Actually too Bill, you see the mouth on this guy? That's like the same mouth those other two I posted from Petland last week have.

Jon; I thought your Haps were mostly healed?
Did you treat the Gourami or give him a med. bath before moving hime?

The adult haps in the 180 are pretty good. There was an appearence of a pimple like look on the Venustus and the Taiwan Reef, but it also went away. I just wouldn't have thought that would happen with the meds running, but it's gone. It's the Mbuna now and the Peacocks that had gotten some white patches on the body, and it's making me wonder if there wasn't more then one thing in the tank. I mean we hit that tank pretty hard on meds, if Columnaris is still in there I'm totally baffled.
No I didn't treat the Gourami, I just moved them figuring the medicated shells are still in the tank, and they should benefit from that. It's just one that has a powder cake like formation around the eye, but not cloudy eye itself. It looks more like a calcium build up or something. And they were in the 100 where there hasn't been any issues of anything all the time I've had that tank running so go figure there lol.

It is possible that there is more than one thing going on, however you treated quite broad spectrum for most aquatic bacterial pathogens. My main emphasis during ANY and all treatments is water quality and stress, so making sure these are in check as well are important. The addition of plain salt during treatment is also beneficial (I do not generally keep salt in at all times for African Cichlids). Make sure this is not IN the eye. During transfer a direct treatment of MB or Potassium Permanganate is helpful as well as a bath with MB, and salts. The Medicated Wonder Shells can be helpful if there is any fungus/Septicemia Carl

I think you'll find this a little useful Bill. www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/l_trewavasae.phpI think this might be the particular group that you have too. www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=1704Appears to be the typical maternal mouthbrooder, and I'd opt to get that enclosure I was talking about with you before really. The gravel movement that you mentioned I'm sure must be him trying to create a pit area in order to try to lure the female over as the other areas he's probably interested in, probably taken. If you really do want these to spawn, I'd get that clay pot or PVC pipe so they can get some privacy.
