a note to guest.
i would encourage new guest to join, basically i know its a new forum and it looks small, but what people sometimes dont forget is that small forums are best for getting answers. believe it or not since i have been on many big forums... there is ALOT of pressure when your on a big forum, basically your not a person rather a number. What i mean by pressure is there is alot of expectation of you to know alot of fish, doing everything a "set" way. in which in fishkeeping there is no set way. Um in no way am i bashing my older larger forums, but i dont like that pressure that i often get and also bashing from other members due to the fact that i do things differently from the mold. So i would encourage guest who are nervous to join the community and get the benefits that a smaller forum offers.
if you like browsing that is fine too, personally i know newer forums are scary to join but many of us do specialize in many topics and it isnt like we are a bunch of people who wanted to start a forum... it was on a rare occurance of professionals all grouped into one forum.
So the option is yours, personally that is my opnion. frankly no one else says it, but i will. big forums tend to have alot of favoritism and pressure to act a certain way.

Great post Chris and that's a point I'd like to back him up on. I'm also a member of cichlid-forum which has a tremendous library of cichlid pictures and profiles, and that's very useful for me as an African cichlid breeder. However, if you post a question in their forum, getting input and feed back there is often times overlooked or not answered.
In here, at some point within between an hour to a day at most, you're going to get some kind of answer. We do not have anywhere near the numbers of some other forums, but between Carl, Bill, John, and Chris in school, we have in my opinion, more professional level of help then even some of those bigger forums.
We also have a dedicated group here as well, and you have little to not infighting on subjects, even on very touchy ones as well. In this forum, you can well assert your position on how you view things with little threat of being attacked. There is more of an open minded outlook in here then other places.
This place is also going to grow over time, and our staff here also will continue to promote the open atmosphere and sharing. You won't find this place degenerating to the level of YA at all.

Now for my input....
Not only do we have cichlid pros on here...I am a betta breeder. I have been breeding for 4yrs now and I am starting to show my fish in IBC shows. I have mentored with several Pro breeders and have a personal friend that is an IBC Judge. If I can't answer it...I will find someone who can.
I'd like to also mention that Carl is a great source of info when it comes to most anything fishie (pun intended).
Please join us in this fun family!
The only dumb question is the one you did not ask.....

Well hello to everyone. Thanks to Murdock, I have joined this group. I belonged to another group, but found it very useless and didn't get answers very quickly or at all. I asked a question about one of my fish, but sadly it died and I am still waiting for an answer from them. So thanks Murdock for putting me onto this wonderful site. I believe I will enjoy it very much. It looks good so far.

I second, third, and fourth, every thing everyone said on here! I am a new fish keeper, about 9 months now anyway, And didn't know a thing about fish, Susie Q ( Lori) is the one who introduced me to this forum. I was getting nothing from the other ones, just put downs, telling me I was doing things wrong.. very discouraging, But again this is a great bunch, you will get the answers you need and very quickly! Welcome aboard!
