A larger or another sponge would certainly do the trick. Great suggestions by Troy.

Make sure you aren't accidentally killing some of the filter bacteria with each water change as well. Example would be adding chlorinated water, then adding a de-chlorinator, add the de-chlorinator first if there will be an immediate need. Very important point! Carl

Finally!!!!!! mine is clear! It actually looks great. I think it all came down to the UV light, I put a small one in it and it has cleared up and stays clear! shew thank goodness, everything I tried for months was not working. I guess the bigger one I had in it wasn't working, although it was brand new. It has no see through piece to check and see if it was working so I really didn't know.

Great! Did you replace the lamp with new HO UV lamp?
What was not working?

Great! Did you replace the lamp with new HO UV lamp? What was not working? Carl Just putting the sponge filter back in for a few months didn't work, so I just added the same UV light I had before (but a smaller version) and it worked like a charm, I guess the brand new one I bought (even bigger) wasn't actually working properly, It doesn't have a light or anything on it to see if it is actually working so I'm just assuming it didn't since it never cleared up the water, I just posted a picture so I'm hoping it will show up. I can't see it right now, I guess I have to go out and come back in to see. Attachments:

Could be the Chamber size difference...Water closer or further away from the bulb.
