Hey guys,
So I'm kind of debating here. I've been in golden since christmas eve, the 24th and I did all my last water changes on the 23rd.
I was going to go home tomorrow because I had to work on the weekend but apparently I'm not booked. So I was thinking of staying longer but I'm not sure about the fish tanks.
Basically I've been gone for 8 days, if I stayed here until sunday do you think the fish would be okay without a water change for 10-11 days?
what do you guys think.

Or I could convince my sister to just change out some water for me, no vaccuming would get done I wouldn't trust her with that but I could walk her though just taking some water out and replacing it when some clean water....I dunno if she would do it though

I would think with minimal feeding they would be fine...I left my tank for a touch over 2 weeks and only feeding once every other day and all was fine.

your tanks will be fun sam.....they arent terribly overstocked....even normal feedings they will be good. just do a bigger water change when you get home

Thanks guys Be very careful when asking people to help you take care of tanks when you are not at home. I have had this backfire on me twice in my fishkeeping life. Most recently while I was in Las Vegas for Thanksgiving and my wife's sister killed off 4 tanks full of fish by overfeeding to the extent that the tank was completely dead when I came home.
Make sure they have some experience and an IQ of at least double digits before letting them do anything with your fish.
I lost my every one of my lyretail brevis, longfin plecos, kribensis and gold ocellatus. I couldn't even look at her, let alone talk to her about it, when I saw the tanks. The worst part was I left her a list of how to feed them, how much to feed them and told her that not enough food would be better than too much. She actually watched me feed them before I left. It was a nightmare! 8

Sammie, I think I might have a good idea to help prevent the catastrophe that happened to 8. You know those weekly pill organizers that have little compartments, one for each day of the week? Why not get one of those and measure out the right amount of food into each one for each individual day and then HIDE the rest of the food so there is no temptation by the non-fish people to overfeed. They even have pill organizers that have two or three compartments for each day of the week if you want them to be fed more than once a day or they have ones that are for a whole month if you expect to be gone longer that one week. Or you could get two of the week size ones and label them with tape "week one" "week two" something like that.
Make sure to remind your sister to get the water temperature right for the replacement water. Show her how, and explain why it's important. Non-animal people think you're just being silly or anal if you don't explain why something is important. And write out a very thorough instruction sheet, that is always a good idea. I know how stressful it is to go out of town and leave someone else to take care of your babies! I hope everything will be OK!
