Howdy and welcome to the group! Hopefully with a little more information we can help you fix your algae problem. Carl started a thread about it for you in "Questions & Concerns." I hope you enjoy being a member of our group.

I'm no good with computer. Didn't know if distress call made it out there. 1st time chatting. Know nothing about aquariums. Tank 20x24x10deep fake plants with rocks. Been changing water weekly. Filter hangs off back of tank. Changed sponge charcoal white marble chips. The following days water started going green. Yesterday took out 2/3 water. Scrubed walls 1st soaked rocks plants in fresh cold water. But don't know what started algee bloom. History took over tank from wife. I was rinsing sponge charcoal and white chips cold water for 2 months without a hitch. Did i need to prep new fiter parts.

sounds like a 20 gallon tank w/ an hob filter (hang on back) - filter should be unplugged abd disaasemled (relatively easy) and scrubbed w hot water and an old toothbrush unless you have aquarium brushes - clean out all intake tubes - get rid of all the brown slime - replace charcoal in new biobag - if you have a well, use tap water providing you check to make sure it is safe - water testing kits are relatively inexpensive - vacuum the gravel - keep the tank away from sunlight - what kind of fish do you have in it? haven't had the problem myself - others will chime in soon I expect - good luck!

how large are your weekly water concerns....carl will also have an article explaining benificial bacteria. small partial water changes are normally much better than huge ones....
