I have several things I'm wondering about regarding my bettas and guppies. I'm prretty sure everything is fine but I just want to make sure.
Earlier on, my 2 oldest male guppies (I puchased them from a specialty petstore) started getting finrot on their tails though they never acted sick. After I uped the PH, KH, and GH and gave them some meds, and it stopped. But their fins are not growing back. They seem healthy otherwise. Also, some of the other guppies seem like their fins are faded like a guppy with red fins looks like only some of the region of her fins are red. I am not sure on this one, if it is just the lighting. At night with the light on, I have no trouble seeing color on their fins. My oldest female guppy, (Irene fish) also seems to go to the top to suck air and has fast respiration following that but this only happens occasionally. When I first got her, she got a gill parasite that almost killed her so I assume she has some gill damage. No other fish seem affected. I am wondering if everything sounds like tehy are ok with this?
One of the female bettas I bred (her name is Ellie) looks fat or bloated as you could call it. (I cannot get a picture because my camera charger is broken and I have to get a new one as soon as I can save up enough for that plus some other fish supplies.) I have increased feeding but only because my 2 oldest female bettas in there seem to be losing a bit of weight with age. I am not sure if it is eggs, a deformity. etc that is giving her this appearance. She has been like that since she was 3 months old (now she is a year) and she has never spawned. She also appears to have ragged fins (she has been like that a while) that are not growing back but not getting any worse. I'm pretty sure it was from fighting as my female bettas sometimes get torn fins from but I just want to be sure she is ok.
Last, every morning it seems like the 14 or so guppies in my adult guppy tank are so scared of me they dart away and huddle together sitting on the bottom. This started when I started capturing my guppies and looking them over in a container or taking them out so they would eat fry that needed to be culled. It is worst when I capture fry every week and siphon/do their water change. Then they panick and will not eat until they're sure I'm pretty far away. But in the morning when they do this, as soon as I put my hand near the tank and feed them or show signs that I am feeding them, they perk up and typically act normal for the rest of the day which means they follow me around begging for food and nibble at my fingers. But the next mroning they're like that again until I show signs that I'm feeding them. Is this fear of being captured (I use a net often to get out the fry) or something else like a symotom of a disease? If they are acting like this from fear, how can I make them less afraid so they're acting normal again?
I know this is a lot of questions. Feel free to only answer some of them or only answer the ones that you feel are areas of concern.
Thanks!
Renee
