came home from work, got on the tractor and plowed snow for 2-1/2 hours, walked in the house and found my ram dead - swim free, disease free my little colorful friend.....enough melancholy, just wanted to say thanks to all who helped w/ their kind thoughts and suggestions - Lord knows I gave it everything I had....amen

I'm sorry to hear he died. At least you gave it all you could. I'm doing the same now for a geneticly weak betta I have. It can be a hassle to give her a bath everyday (she's improving) but I swear when keeping fish I will do everything I can for every fish no matter what they're like. Hope everything else goes better.

am looking for keyhole cichlids now....probably even harder to find - small, but some consolation to find the lady I got the rams from ordered 2, one came DOA, ordered 2 more and they lasted a week - still has one but it's in hard water (7.8) so I don't ecpect it to last....told her to lower the pH now! don't accept failure well....but not everything in life goes as planned - I worked hard at it even after it stopped being fun but I'm not a quitter!

Johnny!!! Hey man look, I've lost almost as many as I had to start with at one point or another. These things will happen from time to time. But your African set up is doing really well so pat yourself on the back here. Your first African species and they are off to a great start. Have to find the good in things.
What I'd really like you to do is look over all the Apisto's you can find off cichlid-forum.com since they have an extensive library of species, with pictures, see if you find something in that grouping you like. Let's examine a few possibilities here first. Try to select maybe like 3-5 species that catch your eye, then rank them 1-5 in order that you have the most to least interest in. Let's see what we can make work out of this.

I'm so sorry that the little guy died. Sometimes at the end of the day all you can say is that you did your best with nothing but excellent intentions in your heart. I'm sure you're frustrated and disheartened at the moment but I hope that you are not too discouraged. I wish you the best of luck with your new fish endeavors.

Sorry to come back and read this, I know you gave it your all!!! If you still like Rams, maybe try the Bolivian (Crown) next time, they are much more hardy. Carl
