I changed over my 16 gallon Calvus/Comp growout tank to sand today. I think I am ready for this next step and it looks awesome...I used to feel it looked blah, now I love it. I am going to see how this goes and then if all goes well change my 90 over...it will look awesome in my 90. Any tips that I must know? I have studied this and the care of it for a while but if there is some advice anyone could add I'd be greatful.

I have sand in many of my tanks and I do not worry at all about sucking up a little sand. Just be careful when you dump the bucket so that the sand doesn't get into the sink drain. I just rinse it a couple times and pour it through a net on the last rinse, then gently put it back into the tank.
In fact, I use a siphon to get rid of some of the snails in overpopulated tanks. Siphon them right up with the goop, rinse them off and toss them in with your loaches, if you have some. Or, you could take them to the lfs and give them to them for their loaches or puffers. Puffers love them too.
Your tank looks great, I think you will be very happy with sand in the long run. It makes it easier for the fish to find food that was missed at feeding time because it lays on top of the sand rather than falls into the crevices between the gravel.

looking great Brenda!!! I love the rocks you've got in there too. I had one tank with sand onthe bottom (my son's habrosus tank) and it was very nice looking. ( I saw was because it was one of the tanks I had to put in storage *sigh* now they are in a smaller tank for a bit. But yeah, sand's fun stuff!

I am just using this tank as a growout for my Calvus and Comps and have wanted to try sand so thought I'd start on a smaller tank first.

It definitely looks great. The black and white was a nice choice.
