Hi Everyone -
It has been awhile but I have finally made significant progress with my new aquarium idea. I am so excited. I think I will be at a point were I can fill it with water and start the cycling process! If you all will recall, I plan on keeping fancy goldfish. The way I have set my system up is this. I have two Marineland Penguin 350 power filters installed on the backs of each of the planter boxers you see in the photo below.
The intake tubes are threaded down through the bottom of the planters. The water flows from the aquarium up into the power filter for mechanical filtration and then into the planter boxes for biological filtration. Then the water flows out of the boxes back into the aquarium by way of a waterfall spill way. If when I start up the system the water overshoots the tank, my plan is to install an clear acrylic shield in front of the spill way so the water bounces off it and into the tank. But hopefully I can adjust the flow so I will not need that fix. The last thing I feel I must add to this system to keep my fish healthy is a UV Sterilizer. I have thought about using a canister filter and the Vecton UV sterilizer. But I am trying to create a system where the filtration system is camouflaged and unobtrusive.
When I contemplate the problem in my head, i cannot see a way to install a UV sterilizer in a way that it would be unobtrusive. Does anyone have ideas? All I can think of at this point is to purchase American Aquarium products internal UV sterilizer. But maybe there is a better way and I am not seeing it?
I would really like to know people's thoughts. The aquarium is 120 gallons.
FYI – I know there looks like there is a lot of weight on that glass brace. Don’t worry for I have a plan. I am installing a suspension system into the ceiling beams to take some if not all of the weight off the brace.
Cheers,
Keightley
