Hi, I'm Stephanie, or Pherknee (Pher-nee). I'm rather new to aquariums and may be in over my head. It all started with an Ecosystem aquarium that my 5th grader brought home at the end of last year. This sparked the decision to buy a 10-gal freshwater aquarium with some male guppies. I've been learning as I go.

It just making sure the water doesn't go toxic with filtration. The filtration grows bacteria that keeps the toxic down. Filters are cleaned to help maintain the bacteria keeping up with the toxic. Other than that, you have to keep temperature in order and added minerals are a good idea. Having a good fish food helps. Here's more info on the basics. Read this and you'll know more than many people in this hobby. Freshwater Basics

There's a lot of information to learn, almost intimidating when all you had going into this adventure was the advice from the people at the local chain pet store.
