I seem to have a slight problem besides ich going on with my goldfish. They are getting bumps, (like one per fish) on their skin. Then it goes away within a few seconds. I realized this has been going on longer than they've been in the 40. My fish Alden has been getting this on and off but only on her fins for the past 1 1/2 years. ( previously thought it was nothing) I fed all my goldfish the Anti-Parasite food and I gave it to them for 4 weeks, feeding 3 days out of 7 a week like the box instructed. The fish are still getting it though. However, only fish from the same tank as Alden seem to be getting it. For example, I haven't seen it on Nemo or Hansel that were in the other 10 before they went into the 40 but Kona and Aztec who came from the same 10 as Alden have each gotten 1 bump over the past 3 weeks. This doesn't seem that serius since it's been going on for so long without much problem but I would still like to get rid of it since the fish would probably be a little better without it. Does it sound like some kind of burrowing worm? I used the Jungle food which should have gotten rid of anything like that. Here's a picture of Aztec when he/she had a bump. The bump is now gone and Aztec has gained weight since I took this photo (I increased feeding) just for reference. i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq297/goldenpuon/100_3019.jpgThanks! Renee

In this picture I see a very emmaciated fish and the "bump" is most likely an internal organ that only appears to "come and go" based on activity and the position of the the fish. A way to think of this is you take a skinny person (such as myself) and you can see more or less "bumps" based on movement and position.

This fish has more weight on now. It actaully has naturally long fins which adds to it looking skinny (also the pic was from about 3 weeks ago). If I could get a picture now, (I can't because my camera's battery charger is broken), it would have put on some weight. As for the other fish with bumps like Alden, I think it is probably something else since the bumps only appear on it's fins. Also Kona, an orange capped fish that is very robust and my fattest goldfish got a bump. As for feeding, I will increase it a bit more as the fish have put on weight but are still too skinny. I have been feeding the fish Spirulina 20 flakes each morning and soaking Hikari goldfish pellets which I feed every night. I honestly think thsi si some sort of parasite. wher e the bump appears, it looks as if the scales of the fish have been distrubed like the area is slightly off color.
I hope I am feeding enough. I wonder why my fish got so skinny.

So was this from underfeeding? I looked at the fish who is the picture (Aztec) and itlooks like he/she's gained weight. Alden and Foneme are still way too skinny. I'm going to be ffeding them a little bit 3 times a day. I know goldfish are grazers so that should work well for them. I'm also still not sure about the bumps. Ye sit could be skinniness on that picture of Aztec but what about Kona who is a good weight? Also, skinnyiness would probably not be cause of bumps appearing randomly on a fish's fins and going away. (The bumps on Alden's fins, when they appear, last about a week unlike with Kona or Aztec where it goes away in a few minutes)

what are you using for an air stone? how many air stones are there? how big are the bubbles? I have often seen in many fish, mine included that like to swim through the bubble wall. often these bubbles will stick to their fins and bodies. is this possible, because it would also explain why they go away so quick. ?

Well, I looked at Nemo again and it looked like the spots were back. Still not actying sick though. I should get the meds from carl by tomorrow.
I do not have an air stone in there but I have a Hydro Sponge filter. It's bubbles are pretty big, I'm not sure I could give you a measurement but certianly much bigger than what comes out of an airstone. The filter is a HOB Whisper 40 and it gives off a lot of current. I put it on one of the shorter sides of the tank instead of the longer sides so the mesh cover could still fit somewhat.
