Before I get back to my saga (under computer questions), while I was without a computer, I was looking at some things I had previously printed out that I thought might be of interest (but never got around to posting).
First, on April 1st (no, this is not a joke) I was looking on the Doctors Foster and Smith site for my cat's "medication", and while I was there, thought I'd look at different aquarium decorations. I pulled up pond info and found items # CE-73253, CE-78103, and CE-79975 (I would love to have these, but don't have a pond): the Gator Pond/Pool Float (they come individually, or as a "kit")--realistic alligator heads, by Bluewater products. Gator Jr. is 22-1/2" x 8-1/2" x 3" high, Gator is 28-1/2" x 9-1/4" x5-1/2". They float freely in the water with wind and/or water movement. They are sooo cute!
The other thing was an article that included some tips on using rockwork in your tank. Besides info on securing rocks together in a pile/cave formation, etc, it mentioned making sure that the weight of the rock is evenly supported on the bottom of the tank--especially if placed directly on the glass. The tip I especially noted was (1st, determine which way you want the rock to sit) to place it on a piece of paper on a level surface, and the contact points will leave a visible indentation, so you can notice were they are. Then apply a generous dollop of aquarium sealant to each of the points on the rock. Once the sealant has cured, the rock can be placed into the aquarium, and the sealant will act as cushions.
