I must be cursed! I just (yesterday) put in a new ZooMED Ultra Sun for the (fluorescent) double-light striplight. Last week I replaced one of the old bulbs with an Ultra Sun, but the second bulb of the 2 I had purchased wouldn't light up. I called the place I had order the bulbs from (Petco and Petsmart no longer carry the ZooMed bulbs) and they sent me a replacement bulb. The new bulb did work, but it seemed to be a little less bright than the 1st one. Now, today, the lights won't come on at all. I tired "tightening" the bulbs, and even switching them with each other, but other than a quick flicker (so fast that I couldn't even tell for sure which bulb it was) they still won't come on. I would go without the lights if I didn't have plants. And as I've said before, I have no more money--and I've spent so much this month that next month I can really only afford the necessities, i.e. food, gas, etc. I'll continue tinkering with the lights, but the way my luck has been running, I don't hold out much hope. Help!!
Angelminx.
P.S. I haven't tried the teflon tape for the Vecton yet because I've been focused on this problem.

And this had to happen right before you were considering upgrading your lighting... Will the fixture light with just one bulb in it? Can you try just the second bulb to see if it lights? Many times, the ballast or the starter on lighting fixtures will start to wear out. It will have no problem lighting an older bulb, cause it takes less energy, but with a new bulb that requires more energy, the old ballast will not be able to light it. This is what seems to be happening with your fixture I stay check the starter first, there cheap and an easy place to start. You can get them at a local hardware store. It would be a F-2 or F-4 starter. Sorry for the troubles. I noticed with this hobby, troubles like this go in spurts. Once these troubles get taken care off, you should be free and clear for a long period of time.

I finally got the lights to come on. I had to keep going back to them after taking a few breaks. Both bulbs look to be the same brightness, and no flickereing, now. Maybe a wire got jarred earlier when I switched the bulbs, before the lights were schedualed to come on for the day, and I just couldn't get it (? back into position) until I jiggled the lights around just right. Definitely time to get the LEDs. Hopefully I won't have any more problems with these, and maybe for Christmas I'll be getting some new lights.
