So. This is my first noteworthy attempt at any aquarium. I have a 27 gallon hexagon freshwater tank. My first stocking of fish consisted of 4 Golden Barbs, and 2 Red Glass Barbs, as these were apparently some of the easiest fish to keep for a beginner such as myself.
I lost two of the gold barbs early on, and have since added two more to replace them, along with two Zebra Fish and two Columbian Tetras. I know the Zebras and Tetras are not to be kept in small, numbers, but i found this out a few days after i got them. Ha. They seem to be happy though.
I'm working on building up the schools, but I'm restricted by my tank size. My original idea was to eventually get 6 Gold Barbs, 6 Red Glass barbs, 8 Zebras, and let the pair of tetras hang out together, with a pleco in there. But i think that might be too many fish.
So, My question is, will the barbs i have now, (4 gold and 2 red) be happy amongst themselves, and possibly school together? Or should i complete both schools of barbs?
Any thoughts or opinions greatly appreciated. Thank You. ;D ;D ;D

Both Barbs are from the genus Puntius, so they MAY school together. I would suggest observing these and then adding more fish at a later time if you feel necessary Make sure your filtration can cover the bio load you plan to keep. As well note that Hexagon aquariums generally cannot be stocked as high as a similar gallonage rectangular aquarium. More than one filter is always best, and a Sponge Filter is one of the best bio filters to be part of your aquarium filter system Please see: Freshwater Aquarium BasicsFish Stocking; Aquarium AnswersCarl
