Four days ago I bought 4 sword tail fish today and I am not sure if they need to have light. I have a light attached to my tank if they need it. Please help me.

All fish need light. All living things need light. Why would you leave it off 24 hours a day?

I agree with Parker and Carl...all living things need light.

Yes, they need a light or a heater but I prefer a light, because it lights your tank and heats the water, but they do need a light but be sure only to give them a few hours of light because, they have to sleep too.

With newer technology and larger tanks, your lights won't provide NEARLY enough heat and tropical fish will need both.

I agree. Lights are *not* made to heat a tank and don't heat the tank much what so ever if at all. Light is beneficial to plants and fish.

Actually they don’t need the light, but if you have live plants or a saltwater tank then you need to put a light at least 12 hours per day.
