I think it is a good article (Marine Depot usually has good information) I too have a similar article, that goes into more depth as to different types of skimmers as well (although not as much about bio load). I also discuss some of the anecdotal opinions about Skimmers and UVs. Aquarium Answers; Protein SkimmersCarl

yes, some of their articles are good, but not all of them your's is very good, as usual Well thank you Eve! I try and use as much actual studies as opposed to articles in writing of many of my articles, especially when it comes to more black and white issues such as lighting and medications, however Protein Skimming is more a of a gray area in that many will post articles stating that certain non-facts are facts. This is why I think this Marine Depot article is well written as it explained the grey areas well without the common statement that you MUST have a protein skimmer for success marine/reef keeping. I myself try and write many of my articles that are based more on tests and experience than raw facts this way as well, a good example is my Marine Aquarium Set-Up article where I do dispute the many claims of others that their way is the only way as I have set MANY aquariums for clients using different methods that all resulted in healthy SW aquariums. I didn't read this over yet Eve but I can say that I have no doubts as to this being very good. I think it's good for you and for every member that can write up their findings on equipment as I've seen a lot of YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary) in some thing that have been rated both high and low. That's one thing I know about some of Carl's reports I've seen where he encompasses a bulk of different things by comparison which has advantages, and also as an individual article as yours, you have a tailored experience.
One thing we all have in common as people, is to look for many generalities to solve things. Such as we've seen in questions asked on YA, where someone just says they have a cichlid question, and we have to go the extra mile to get the specifics. Where Carl can cover a large range of options and give ratings on how things performed, individual members can round out the holistic picture of things by posting how certain things work in their particular tank.
For example with a skimmer, from what I understand, these are really for salt water tank, maybe a skimmer has a better effectiveness on a certain species or a certain type of enviroment or a certain tank size. Carl covers large scale performances and also gives certain advantages and disadvantages, while individuals and provide certain experiences on specific tanks and set ups. It rounds out the whole picture is my main focus here. Thank you Eve.
