HI; thanks for taking the time to read my post. I have always thought of this site as the best for Accurate info and have downloaded many of your articles for my friends. I have been using your wonder shells for a couple of years. My Gold gourami has suddenly started swimming strangely (with effort) but normally hides from the one rainbow fish. Does come out to feed but now comes out to go to the top of aquarium and does not seem to eat. ALl water parameters are normal. The only thing I have noticed was some white debris on front feelers but do not see spots anywhere else...not sure I';m dealing with ich. ALl neon tetras, cherry barb and rainbow fish look/act normally. I have had him and the rainbow fish since the beginning (about a year). The only "recent" addition, within last month were 5 neon tetras . It is a seasoned 60 gallon tank with 2 filters Hope you can give me an idea. Thanks

Just based on what you're saying here, I would still lean toward the cause being ich.
He's hanging out at the top of the tank which may indicate he's low on oxygen - that's a common symptom of ich, since it usually infects the gills and interferes with the fish's ability to absorb oxygen.
Often you will see the symptoms of oxygen deprivation before you ever see any spots on the outside of the fish.
The other thing is that you introduced new fish a few weeks ago - new fish are the #1 cause of ich in my experience.

I was going to say ich as well, I have treated this successfully with copper sulfate and increasing the tank temperature to 84-85ish. and of course methylene blue baths with salt, i use this for everything. Hope it all works out, try hand feeding her to see if you can get her to eat

Methylene Blue will help immensely with oxygen absorption, so it makes for a good treatment even if it's not a cure.
I too have again started using chelated copper sulfate (Mardel Coppersafe) because it's a great preventative - you only have to add it once a month and since it's chelated, it maintains a constant level in between water changes.
That being said, I recently started using Kordon's herbal Ich Attack after reading an article from Carl on napthoquinones. I had very good results and it seems to be far less harsh on both my fish AND my tank than some other remedies (I HATE THOSE BLUE STAINS!).

if you are going to use copper...try and remove inverts if you can....other wise go half doses....do water change then half dose again. btw...it does sound like ich and the number 1 cause for ich is being brought into the tank....

Thank you all for your answers; if Ich, its a weird presentation. Where are the other white spots? I purchased the Paragard ( does that have copper? I know it has malachite green but not sure adbout new methylene blue...) so I figured I'd start with that. Hopefullly that will do the trick..I'll also raise the temp. I had not heard of the copper medication

I just was reading about malachite green (in paraguard I am using) that neon tetras are sensitive to this?? There is nothing on the label about this-will I have a problem? I followed the label instructions; have used it once and so far they look ok. Should I cut back on dose? Gold gourami still hanging out at top and not eating.
