So I ended up damaging my biological filter bed somehow - I've had trace amounts of ammonia since messing with everything. I would imagine it's because I didn't season my new Filter Max #3's before taking out the dirty Hydro Sponges.
The mickey ended up dying, as did my female lyretail swordtail (who we've had for nearly 18 months. I'm sure she was old.)
I've made some changes to my filtration and ornaments and things seem to be somewhat stable again.
