These are pictures of one of my Black Skirt Tetra. This started out on the mouth and now has spread to a spot on his/her dorsal. This fish has been the only one affected by this for about 6 months or so. I figured it was not contagious until one of my White Skirt Tetra (sold as a "fruit" tetra) is starting to show signs. Can't give parameters on tank as I did dont have my test kit up here at work, but I do 50%-75% WC every Tuesday. Temp stays around 78*F, Planted tank. Other fish: Sepra Tetra (3...lost one yesterday) 6 Platies (one female is not looking so hot) 2 "common" puffer...Spotted? (not figure 8) 1 8in Common Brown Pleco .....just added a VERY skinny Clown loach from my 75g (not sure what it up with it...lost the other a couple of months ago...thinking the Skunk is just evil ). I plan to treat the entire tank for internal parasites because I'm thinking that may be what is wrong with the Clown.

It may well be a Tumor, and the fact that another fish is showing signs may not indicate that this is contagious, just a coincidence of two similar fish. I have my doubts as to a parasite (watch for white poop and irregular obtrusions on your fish' epidermis) If a tumor, this may be difficult if not impossible to treat. Not to be a broken record with fish baths, but I would suggest a bath with Methylene Blue, salt, and a medication such as Metronidazole, Kanamycin or even Usnea (not all of these last three at the same time) In a hospital tank, a cocktail of ParaGuard, Nitrofurazone, and Kanamycin (Kanaplex) may help, but I would not recommend this strong cocktail in your main tank unless every fish was severely afflicted, which appears to not be the case. I treated the tank yesterday with ParaGuard due to my Clown loach looking so bad. I always add salt to my tanks as you know. I will pull this/these fish and do a Meth Bath. Then set up a hospital tank with the cocktail. These are just Walmart fish so I'm not too worried about them if it is tumors on both fish. I have had them for a good yr now so considering where they came from I think I have gotten my money's worth out of them
