That's a nice bright red you got brewing there Eve, will hope for you too. Have you ever seen pics of Rock Kribs? Totally different look about them, and kind of interesting. Not the typical Kribs you see in the stores.

Not the typical Kribs you see in the stores. Rock kribs get quite large. They are not actually related to the kribensis, either. They are very pretty fish, though. I have heard them called Taiwan Reefs.
The small kribs that Eve has are riverine cichlids from West African rivers, the rock kribs are from one of the lakes, I think.
Yes, those are breeding colors. The kribensis female will choose her mate from among a number of males and will chase any other females away to get the right guy.
The kribensis are quite good parents and display very interesting parental behavior in caring for the eggs and then the fry. It is worth the effort and expense to set them up in their own 10g tank and let them reward you with a batch of fry.

JohnI will add to John/8 is that the habitat that the Common Kribensis comes from is quite different from the Rift Lakes of the Rock Kribs. The common Kribensis habitat is more in common with South American Cichlids, although they are actually quite undemanding in their water requirements IMO. Carl

I did see that actually. Apparently the Rock Kribs, as I'd always figure John(8) would know, are in Lake Victoria and actually they have different varient groups in the lake. From what that article indicated, there's a color group from the North and a different color look in the South of the lake. I have to say though, it's really interesting to see the different color patterns that aren't very available in stores.

Wow, they're beautiful! Are they closely related to cichlids? The kribensis are, in fact, cichlids. They display classic cichlid parental care of both the eggs and fry, protecting both the spawning area and the fry after hatching until the fry become unmanageable as far as leaving the area the parents control.

alright, well i have taken out my auratus fry, and will be going to the store in a little bit with them
have cleaned my tank, meaning done a 40% waterchange, vacuumed and have transferred my kribs into the 29 gallon tank now
also provided them with 2 additional decorations, ship wrecks, i still had sitting around and put in a piece of slate under both of them
so fingers crossed, i hope they will breed ;D
