This weekend I did a major tank clean of our 26g and found out something that I was not aware of previously. I've already mentioned here before that this is a great HOB filter for many reasons but lately on restart I've had to twist the power head a degree or so to get it going (after that it runs fine until the next cleaning).
Well while I was cleaning the shaft using a fine poking thing to dig some waste out around the shaft opening the whole shaft popped out! Thought I had broke it at first, but it looks like it was designed to do this and is held in place by a magnetic bearing. So once it was out I was able to easily clean the shaft in a few seconds then I just dropped the cleaned shaft back in place.
When I restarted everything (normal priming with tank water) the filter started right up without having to give the power head a little twist like I'd been doing for maybe a year. I've had this filter for about a year and a half and didn't know about the easy shaft removal until now.. It's probably in the instructions but I have no idea where mine is. Just in case you own this filter and didn't know.

Thanks for the tip fishfever. I will add that this helps keep many similar HOB/Power Filters working smoothly and reliably. Carl
