Hey guys, i didnt know how to 'extend' my question i last asked (losing my Angels) I couldnt post any more answers!! Anyway my Angels are doing well now, they seem 100% normal. No new fish untill im sure though. Anyway i started a new question because i have a spare Aqua one clear 300 litre p/h H.O.B filter and am thinking of running it along side my current interal. After thinkg real hard ive decided i may need more filtration in my 100 gal and that is the only thing i can think of that may have 'triggered' my Angels to fall ill. My current internal does 600 litres per hour and my hob does 300 litres per hour. My tank is 380 litres so would this be ok?? Sorry for using litres im not very good at gals. Thanks guys! Ps, vids of my Angels soon!!

No need to apologize for liters, most persons in the world use the metric systems and it is much easier for scientific or mathematical formulas (I use metric for many calculations). 3.785 liters = 1 us gallon Your filtration is rather weak as per flow. I recommend turning over your water a minimum of twice per hour, so your 600 lph filter is not quite there (100 gallon aquarium = 378 liters x 2 =756 lph for minimum flow) If you have access to a larger larger AquaClear filter such as the model 70 which moves 1500 lph (400 gph). As well a large Sponge Filter such as the Hydro Sponge #5 PRO connected to a 2660 cc min air pump can also move a lot of water (at least 800 lph) Regards; Carl

I think another thing worth adding to this input is that having dual filtration offers you, in addition to higher turn around rate, more biofilter space. You need to clean out those mechanical parts of your filters at some point. Having dual filters on a tank gives you an advantage. You'll incur some bacterial loss in cleaning those sponges. If you have 2 sets of filters, you can clean one filter one week, allowing time for regrowth of bacteria, and clean the other filter the next week. This would keep bacterial loss in filter cleaning to a minimum as well as increase your filter capability. As long as the back flow of your filter isn't causing a current that would pin the fish to the tank wall, you really can't go wrong having dual filters imo.

OPPS 800 not 600...... Doesnt make much of a difference. Im setting it up right now =) so 800p/h plus 300p/h should be good =)

Very good points in above posts. Extra filtering is generally a good idea, even if similar filters. I think even better is two different type of filters since each filter type appears to have different strengths/weaknesses (mechanical filtration, bio-conversion, etc). Plus the flow pattern is likely to be different between the filters so you can possibly get improved tank circulation as well. For example I've found a sponge filter to be a wonderful complement to a HOB filter and in my fry tank the sponge filter is actually the primary filter. If you are going to use a similar pair, perhaps it would be a good idea to physically separate them as much as practical.

The only thing keeping me from putting them at opposite ends of the tank is LEADS. Omg i have soooo many, i try not to use and extention leads where possible.

That's a really good idea Angel. I should consider doing that sometime.

Congratulations! After the earlier angel problems, it is nice to see your tank back and doing this well. As well your video quality and background music is first rate (as usual) Carl

That's a really great video, Angel (as always ) Which is the male and which is the female, were you able to see who was doing what? I couldn't really tell? How long will it take for the eggs to hatch and whatnot? How exciting! I just love little baby angels!

Great video. I do wonder why they chose the filter to spawn? Better to them than more natural plants for some reason? lol

i am betting the powerhead was chosen for lots of oxygenation and betting the smaller predators in the tank arent strong enough to swim up to the filter...just my humble opinion tho...
