Tank Size: 26g Age of the tank: 1 yr pH: 7.2 Ammonia: 0 NitrAtes: 0 nitrites: 5 ppm GH/KH: high/high Temperature: 79 Fish: Symptoms: Our largest juvenile white molly (I guess really an adult now since she's 2" long, raised from fry) has developed a very small pinkish blemish on one side, centered on her body (from top to bottom) and half way between her dorsal and tail fin. I don't know how my wife happened to notice this while feeding... it's very hard to see unless you are almost looking for it. It protrudes very, very slightly but again unless you are looking for it it's very easy to miss. I've moved her to a hospital tank that I already had set up and will start the usual MB/salt baths with a Q-tip for direct swab on the area but I'm curious if anyone knows what this might be? I'd take a picture but I doubt it would show enough to see anything.

Does it appear to be a sore from a scratch/injury? For now I think what you are doing is best, maybe some Triple Sulfa or Melafix in the hospital tank would be a good idea (Triple sulfa is a little more effective from my experience for this type of sore or infection that involves red/pink areas and swelling. Carl, I'll look more closely under a magnifying glass on her next bath.. it did seem more round than irregular shaped but it's so small that I will need to look closer. Our oldest dominant adult molly does tend to chase all the other mollies sometimes and she could have scraped herself off a decoration or something trying to get away from the dominant molly (she used to ignore the smaller ones but now that they've grown a lot I guess she looks at them as competition). I added the Melafix to the hospital tank and started using some Triple Sulfa in the MB/salt baths.

Looking at it more closely I do not believe it is from a scratch or injury. After the MB/salt bath there is a tiny blue dot centered on the "pimple". I think I will just continue the bath treatment (adding Triple Sulfa) and keep Melafix in the hospital tank. Other than the appearance, the fish is acting normal (although clearly unhappy to be away from her friends, this is the first time she has ever been out of the 26g as she was born and raised in it).

I've been doing the 1-2 times per day (mostly 1) MB/salt bath with a small pinch of Triple Sulfa in the bath. Also using Melafix and increased salt in the hospital tank with slightly raised temp. Before today's bath I cannot find any evidence of the "pimple". I mean it wasn't big to start with but now there is no discoloration or any protrusion that I can detect. I will continue treatment for at least a few days however because I've learned that just because something is not visible with the naked eye does not mean it's entirely gone. I had a cory with a very noticeable fungus growth at the base of his dorsal fin and it seemed like it went away with just a few MB/salt baths. But about a month later it reappeared in exactly the same spot and same size. I repeated the same treatment and again it went away after a short while; but this time I continued treatment (including swabbing the spot with MB) for several days to a week after I couldn't see anything. This was months ago and it never returned.

I am happy to read of success here, as well thanks for raising the important point of continued treatments after success may seem to be achieved, as this is very important.
