I realized that my fish issues are kind of like celebrity deaths: they come in groups of at least 3. Over the weekend I lost one of my rainbows. I thought he just had a little scrape on his side from freaking out when I did a serious cleaning job, but it must have been something worse because 2 days later he died. I noticed last week that one of my white clouds had an injury on its side. Every now and then a bubble would come out of it! I isolated him in the breeder net and gave him MB baths. I also treated the tank with Melafix. I thought he was getting better because he'd been swimming around more, but he died this evening. My little pink female betta with scoliosis has taken a turn for the worse. I don't think she will last much longer, and Pete has been much less active yesterday and today since I made that post in the other thread about him. Isn't that weird?

Do your fish read the National Enquirer? Anyway, sorry to make a joke of the problems I would watch for any symptoms of a more serious pathogen such as Columnaris, etc. As well consider combining the Melafix with Pimafix for in tank treatment as this (although still not a strong treatment) is more wide spectrum than Melafix by itself which is primarily gram positive and therefore effective on only a minority of aquarium pathogens (although it is an excellent first response) See: Aquarium Organic TreatmentsCarl

I don't think I'm too concerned about any of my other fish at this point. They all seem to be fine. In fact, 2 of my remaining White Clouds have been kind of frisky lately, displaying at each other and flittering around like hummingbirds or something. Next time I see them do this, I will try to take a video. It's quite interesting. These 4 issues that I mentioned are all in different tanks and are completely different problems from each other, so I'm not worried. However, I will be watchful for any other problems popping up. If anything looks suspicious in the 10 gallon or the 30, I will treat with Melafix and Pimafix. I wouldn't want to try anything stronger in the 10 because of my shrimp.

Sorry to hear about your platy John! The longest I've been able to keep a platy is just over a year.
I'm not giving up that things will start to look up soon for you either! Hang in there!
