We rent a Suite in a State Farm (franchise) building. The owner of the SF came by today to see if my boss had a check for rent (boss is at court). He started talking to me about HIS fish tank (140g) and telling me about issues that he has had...loss of fish, algae...stuff like that. Then he asked me about mine...I have lots of fish and NO algae. The guy/company that he uses only changes the water 1x a month and does a 100% (well more like 98% due to the gravel ). They have no live plants and it is a gravel bed. SF looses fish all the time and have to buy replacements (well they have the usual warranty). SF told me that the guy is bringing fish today (they have just recently gotten over ICH (ok..the guy does not use salt in his breeding aquariums...). The guy mixes 1in fish with 6in fish (can you guess what happens there?!!!). SF wants me to come over Monday to see what kind of fish the guy has put in the tank. I had to bite my tongue several times!!! I would say something then have to "crawfish" (pun intended ) and say...Im really not trying to badmouth the guy...he MUST know what he is doing because he has a business (tongue in cheek ). I told SF to get a list of fish available and I'd help him pick out fish that can/will go together...he has a 6in fish right now (not sure what type...have not been in there in a while) and I told him to trade it out because he said it is pretty aggressive. I'll let ya know how it goes

Good luck! I think you need to take over his tank care and charge him $$$ Carl OMG!!! that would be awesome!!! I'd keep the gravel and just add some Anubis...and maybe some Christmas Moss...he has an awesome rock that the moss would look awesome on (course it would have to be harvested often)...LOL Carl...this is the tank that I mentioned to you a while ago...where the Nitrates were off the chart!!! 140g running an E(crap...forgot the canister filter name)...the one I wanted before I got the one from you.

it is probably an eheim filter. they are awesome filters. carl had a great point. you should try to take over maintenance on this tank. who knows, it could become a business for you. all of the FW tanks i looked after, we did work on them twice a month.if you do take it over, you can ask me or i am sure carl as well anything about the maintenance field. i will even add a list on the equipment you would need if you like....

Update: I have not had a chance to talk with the guy but I did check out the tank...there is 1 Tinfoil Barb in there, 4 or 5 Blood Parrots, 5 or 6 Black Tiger barbs and 2 Convict Cichlids. At least the guy got smart and put the correct sizes in there this time. He did have Platies in with Silver Dollars and the Tinfoil!!! There were 3 Tins in there last yr. I fear that the Parrots won't get enough to eat with the Tin and the barbs though .
