I thought it was about time I shared the stories of the 10 goldfish I rescued that were feeder fish. Every single one has a personality and some have noticeable likes/dislikes.
Read on if you'd like for fun or to learn about my goldfish.
Note: All lengths of fish are with length of fins included.
1. Puon
Characteristics: semi-long fins, orange in color, minor head deformity (likely from inbreeding) almost 3 inches
Personality: unaggressive, active, will sometimes take food by hand, begs for food when I approach the tank
Age: I've had this fish 4 years as of this August
Additional notes: Bought from a Pet Supplies Plus with a semi-good shipment of feeder goldfish. Was in the same bag with a goldfish with a fungal infection that I had put back in the fish tank at the pet store. Bought alone. My username is named after her/him.
2. Oranda
Characteristics: long white fins, white with orange cap on head, sacks on eyes similar to a telescope goldfish, presumably blind, 3 inches
Personality: unaggressive, prefers to keep to one side of the tank, is loud when foraging in gravel, fairly tame, much more active during feeding time
Age: I've had this fish 4 years as of this September 3rd if memory serves.
Additional notes: Bought from a Pet Supplies Plus good shipment of feeder goldfish. Bought at the same time as the goldfish Aztec and Foneme.
3. Aztec
Characteristics: Extremely long fins, was once orange and black but is now a solid orange, between 3 1/2 and 3 3/4 inches including fins
Personality: fairly placid, active, enjoys airsucking, has a habit of going in a hiding place and suddenly coming out when I approach the tank, begs for food when I come close to the tank, is known to be a bit anti-social with the other goldfish, somewhat nervous and less tame than the others
Age: I've had this fish 4 years as of this August
Additional notes: Bought from a Pet Supplies Plus good shipment of feeder goldfish. Bought at the same time as the goldfish Aztec and Foneme. Both Aztec and Foneme kept nipping at each other at the time I bought them that I wanted to separate them.
4. Foneme
Characteristics: Short fins, completely orange in color, used to have some white that faded in time, roughly 2 inches.
Personality: can be nippy in some situations, active, LOVES air-sucking, friendly and begs for food when I approach the tank, eats from hand prefer to forage for food on the bottom opposed to grabbing it as it sinks to the bottom, will sometimes miss food floating by it altogether.
Age: I've had this fish 4 years as of this August
Additional notes: Bought from a Pet Supplies Plus good shipment of feeder goldfish. Bought at the same time as the goldfish Aztec and Foneme. Both Aztec and Foneme kept nipping at each other at the time I bought them that I wanted to seperate them.
5. Alden
Characteristics: Long fins, was once orange and slightly black but is now orange. Has a white tipped caudral fin and a minor abdominal deformity. Most likely female. About 4 inches.
Personality: not aggressive, active, loves air-sucking, has a habit of begs for food when I come close to the tank, very friendly, nibbles at my finger twice as hard as other goldfish its size, is one of the first goldfish to nibble at my finger when I put my hands in the tank, very tame
Age: I've had this fish 4 years this winter
Additional notes: Bought with no other fish from Meijer from a decent stock of feeder goldfish.
6. Nemo
Characteristics: Fairly long fins. Orange and white. Used to possibly be more orange. Roughly 2 1/2 inches
Personality: not aggressive, active, enjoys air-sucking, begs for food when I come close to the tank sometimes, very flighty and nervous, will rarely eat from hand, will often be swimming on the other side of the tank of the rest of the other goldfish
Age: I've had this fish 4 years this winter
Additional notes: Bought with no other fish from Meijer from a decent stock of feeder goldfish. Bought a few months after Alden. Was very small and under an inch when I got him/her.
7. Salyme
Characteristics: Long fins, was once grey and is now orange. Was the fastest growing goldfish before she was put in the 40 gallon. Most likely female. roughly 4 inches
Personality: not aggressive, active, used to be slightly more friendly/active, begs for food when I come close to the tank, very friendly, tame, one of the first goldfish to nibble at my finger when I put my hands in the tank
Age: I've had this fish 4 years this winter
Additional notes: Bought with no other fish from Meijer from a poor stock of feeder goldfish. Many were skinny and appeared to be suffering from either genetic deformities or malnutrition. Salyme was very thin, small and somewhat weak looking when I got her. She put on weight and grew a great deal after I got her. I bought her with another fish that picked on her to no end. I ended up culling the other fish she was with (Magifsoune) before I joined EA when I thought it had ich. I am unsure to this day but I regret that decision.
