???Hello everyone, I have a large amount of brown algae in my tank, I have trapdoor snails in the tank so using an algaecide does not help (most have warnings not to use in tanks with invertebrates). Does anyone have any suggestions?

What size is the tank and what are your water parameters? PH, KH, GH, nitrite, ammonia, and nitrate.
Also, how often do you clean the tank?
I have had problems with brown algae in the past when raising betta fry. I discovered that I was feeding too much and no cleaning out the bottom enough.
I hope that helps.

Brwon Algae (AKA Brown Diatom Algae) is a very common problem. The most common causes are: * New tank syndrome for which time/patience and a well cycled tank will *Poor or inadequate lighting *Poor mineral balances (too much silicon and not enough other minerals) This article of ours has a lot of information about Brown Algae: Aquarium Answers; Algae including Brown AlgaeCarl
