I stole a fish from the petstore

I was going after a weather loach (dojo) but they did not have any (after what I went thru I dont know if they know what a dojo is anyway!!!)

Ok...walked in and saw a lone Skunk Loach...I know they get fairly big but I do have the 75g now...only loach in the entire store!!! I looked for someone in the fish area...no one...I went to the rat/rabbit area and found 2 girls cleaning cages. I asked one of the girls if there was anyone in that area and she implied that there was but asked if she could help me. I asked her plain as day...how much is the Skunk Loach because there was no tag. She said she was not sure so she called for the guy in that area. He said it was not a Skunk loach and went to look it up on the computer...he said it was a horse head loach. I informed him it was a skunk loach and he told me it was not...the he said "maybe a golden weather loach"...umm that is what I came after...no duh! then he though maybe clowns...but then corrected himself (they had clowns for $12.99)...he kept going back to the horse face (errg) so I said "hmmmm maybe it is a ($3) Khuli loach . He asked me if I was serious...I told him no it is a skunk loach (he again disagreed with me). I told him that because he had no idea what kind it was that he should just give it to me. He said that he could not...so I said to charge me for the khuli so he did (course I cant tell anyone )

I also picked up 4 ottos to try my luck again on these cute little critters.

AND talked with a guy that INSISTED that the 1 in for 1g fish myth was true! ERRG...................I see stupid people....*whispers* but they don't know they are stupid..................

lol....i had a zit faced teenager working in the marine department at my fish store. the crap he was giving the ex wife and my son was hillarious. he was recommending marine fish that should NEVER EVER be kept togeather, as well as gossly overstalking a tank. i corrected him and proved it with his own books. he said i was wrong and that the book was wrong.... i called the manager over who is a friend....he was fired on the spot for being a know-it-all....lol. was great. some people need a grasp at reality and others shouldnt work with people. this was a rare example of someone who should learn both...

lol Sounds like too many people I have run into at Petstores. Once I had a similar problem with buying snails. The time I bought those 7 snails (I think I wrote about it on EA), there was no tag and they had NO idea what kind they were. I asked a bunch of different employees and they had no clue. Ugggh...

Fortunately, I was very happy to overhear that employees at Petsmart last time I went there were telling customers that were getting goldfish that they should have roughly 1 goldfish per 10 gallons. The customers were surprised they could not put in more fish. I smiled when they told the family that wanted the goldfish again 1 goldfish per 10 gallons. Fortunately they know a little about what they are doing. Though this rule is pretty basic and doesn't take into account filtration, cleaning schedule, etc., it is better than saying you can keep a goldfish in a bowl or one inch of goldfish per gallon.

I kind of chuckled to myself when i read the title of your post It made me happy. And it always makes me happy when you can prove someone wrong after they fight so hard to be right. I had an argument with someone over bettas for a long time in big als one day, it was amusing.

What gets me is not that they do not know everything (I still look up fish all the time, amongst other subjects), sit that these employees or even owners will argue even when they are corrected rather than simply admit that they do not know.

I bought a a Java Fern from a local store here in GP and the manager insisted it was an Anubias (which looks quite different), at that time I simply smiled and paid for the so called Anubias..

When I had my store (and even now), I instructed my employees to admit when they did not now the answers, and often they would learn from customers this way. However we also had customers that would teach an employee the "wrong" answer, but this was still a learning opportunity for them and me (if only to dig deeper and read more).

That's funny! I bought another fantail yesterday at my LFS only to have her write it up as a Shubunkin! LOL... As I was standing there another couple were buying their first aquarium for their young daughter and I heard the worker carrying on about setting the tank up. He said 'I think you want to put some of this in when you set it up as he was pointing to a bottle of dechlorinator.' Which was great.....But then he went on and said, 'at least I think....' Why do they have these people working there?

LOL...glad im not the only one that sees stupid people...

Update on my clown/Khuli/horseface/dojo (skunk) Loach. He/she is doing great!!! I can find 3 of my 3 Ottos...they seem awful skinny but I see them skimming the plants. Im wondering if I should add algae wafers to the tank...I have algae in there....just a worried mother I guess

I am of the opinion that it could not hurt to feed them the
Algae Wafers, even if this might keep them from grazing on algae.

A high Spirulina Alagae Wafer such as the HBH Algae Grazers could help with digestability problems as well as boosting immunity.
