Hey guys, So doing my water change last night, I found nemo, my orange swordtail dead. It looked like he was dead for awhile so probably the day before since I just got home. I am a little baffled. I do have a sick fish in that tank and I am treating it but he showed no signs of illness really before I left. The only thing I can think of was his tail looked like it got nipped off, the tip of the long swordpart, which might have been actually from disease not from nipping. So I have no idea what happened, I was gone for a week and ahalf and came back and he was dead. Anyways, just thought I would post a pic for memory's sake. Most recent pic I have, you can see how his tail was eaten away by whatever it was.

R.I.P. Nemo. He was a beautiful fish. I'm sure you gave him a great home.

I'm so sorry. How very sad it is when you lose any fish. And even more hard when you had no idea anything was wrong with him. I'm sorry.

I am sorry to read this Sam For what it is worth, the appearance of the tail indicates infection, so your treating of the tank (as per your thread/post in the illness section) is a good idea. If possible use both Furan 2 and Kanaplex(adding salt and lowering temps would be a good idea as well) Carl

Thanks carl, that is exactly the treatment I am using actually. The tetra that is ill looks bad tonight though so I think I might lose him too.

He has been getting meth baths with salt as well. He looks like he has some sort of internal bleeding, because he's getting bruising on his sides in spots and its worse today and hes a lil swollen.

Sorry to hear about Nemo, looks alot like the classic fin rot I've seen in pictures or LFS.
For the tetra, you can try taking a Q-tip and swabbing with the full strength MB solution just prior to the bath on any spots that don't look normal. When I do this, I try to gently rotate the Q-tip over the affected area with the fish held in the net above the bath. Then I dump the whole Q-tip in the bath with the fish. This *seems* to have resulted in quicker results than just a regular MB/salt bath without swabbing. Good luck.
