at least do a water change without vacuuming. clean water is a must for fry. you can do a vacuuming tho if you want. just watch the bucket. any fry sucked up will have had a carnival ride to the bucket and will usually remain unharmed. just watch when you vacuum...

I second what Bikeguy said. That is the best way to clean a tank with fry. I have done this method myself. Congrats on the spawns by the way.

If you work slowly and carefully it shouldn't be a problem as everyone else says. And I've been a bit surprised but yes they do seem to survive the occasional trip into the bucket without injury!

i forgot to tell that they are not in a tank but in a barrel.so i don't have the advantage of vision..i can only see them from the top.

I'd just do the water change without vacuuming in that case (to reduce the dissolved organic compounds) by skimming it from the top with a cup or similar...

You can either use women's stockings (panty hose) or if you can find some sponge..insert it into the big end of your siphon. That will keep fry out...OR..use a fish net over the end of the siphon...I do that when I'm doing a huge water change and don't want to stand at the tank while it empties...course you will have to stand there as it siphons.
Good Luck

thank you guys!!!i'll try all methods here..i can just separate the fry from the parents, that's should've been the most practical way,but the last time i did that, the male killed his 1st pair.if i use a screen divider, the male won't spawn with the female.seems he wants that he can "interact" with the female.
