is it possibe for a fish to be paralyzed on only half of its body? directly divided down its spine?
i had a 3 year old cory cat (albino) started to swim a little funny a few weeks ago so i kept an eye on him as time went buy i noticed half of his face was starting to sag. the whole left side of his face was drooped and his left gills werent even moving it was as if he sufferd some sort of stroke and the end results were paralyzation. well i turned the lights off on the tank and started watching him very carefully. he seemed as if he was full of air kept floating and fighting himself from floating to the top he just wanted to lay on the bottom like his little buddies did he ended up floating and resting and fighting his way back to the bottom for about 3 hours and i then decided he is suffering and his condition has made no change for the better. (pause)
i know some of you are wondering whats in the tank (conditions) no3 0 -no2 0 -ammonia 0 - ph 7.5 - gh 180- kh 180- and only fish in the tank currently are 2 male guppies. 5 female guppies, and 2 glass cats and his little trooper buddy the other albino cory cat.
(resume) i then pulled him out of the tank it wasnt very hard i just took a cup and set it on the surface of the water and sucked him into it he was upside down floating. and then examined all of his fins checked him thoroughly for ick. anything only thing odd was his anis or vent or whatever you guyz call it thats correct was a little bit swollen but dont think that would cause him to have buoyancy issues or paralyzing in the left side. he seemed completely fine other then the issues i stated earlier i then decided he wasnt going to make it any more and it was sad to watch him suffer like that so i put 2 alkaseltzers in the glass and let him pass and then disposed of him an hour later and went to sleep.
anyone else find any of this behavior odd? or have explinations or theory's he was my eldest fish so id hate for his death and suffering to be for nothing. im very curious to what could cause symptoms of a stroke in a very simplistic species of fish such as a cory cat?
