ok,after reading mr. carl's articles on food nutrition(i hope i read and understood it right),i look all the available fish food on all 4 LFS here.i was specially looking spirulina.i found some of that contains these, but all are flowerhorn foods.i bought one anyways to feed my bigger type fishes.i was also amazed that one food product that i usually ignore(it was cheap so i thought it was a low quality),but when i checked it out,it was the only small type foods that contains spirulina!so i bought one for my medium sized fishes.uhm, did i make the right choices? will post all ingredients of my fish foods for you guys(who are way more experienced and experts ;D),maybe you can have the time to evaluate it. ;D

I am not sure of your question Danny, could you tell us the food and list the ingredients (in order on the label)?
Price is not always an accurate way to determine quality as you seem to be finding out (if I read you correctly). Tetra often costs more, yet rarely has the best ingredients near the top of the ingredients list, if at all.

Most of the foods look good; the Sera Growth is excellent for growth. Although I have used many Sanyu foods, which are generally excellent, I do not think the ingredients of the "SANYU SPIRULINA FLOWERHORN" which has too much cereal and the Spirulina is too far down the list of ingredients. This is a good example of reading the ingredients, as you cannot always make generalizations of fish food brands. Sanyu is a fish food company our of Malaysia that often uses similar formulas from well researched foods from Japan and Taiwan, however in this case I think they did not use a good formula. As an example of a better Sanyu product; The Sanyu Betta Gold is the same formula as Hikari and is excellent. As another example; Omega is another excellent brand, however their Veggie flake is not as good as many other foods in their fish food line, especially when compared to better Spirulina foods such as Spirulina 20 Carl

They probably will still eat it (unless it is very spoiled) but it is best for them to have fresh food. It can sometimes be hard to tell when fish food spoils according to what I read a while ago. (It was not on EA so I may be wrong)

what can you say about the ingredients of this food?
MEGA MIX -astaxanthin,soy bean meal,corn meal,wheat flour,omega 3 EPA/DHA & essential fatty acids(HUFA),fish meal,pure spirulina maxima,wheat flour,wheat germ,lecithin,yeast,multi vitamins,minerals and active enzyme.
is it healthy?it's actually a flowerhorn food but i'm planning to use it(if it's healthy) as staple diet for my fish.

to me it doesnt seem like a very nutritious food....the healthiest ingredients are listed at the end. the volumes of fish meal and spirallina are probably quite low....

things like spiralina and fish meal should at least be high on the list and things like soy either very low down the list or not on it

can you add pics of your flowerhorns. here there are no flowerhorn foods....just a chiclid food. to me it seems like a company making a dog food for specific breeds of dogs. just repackaging with a different display...
