my skirts (tetra's ) will never get their eye sight back?! Ever since they got the pop eye, they have never been the same, two of them have one blind eye, You can look at them and tell, one is really cloudy, that's one of the black skirts and the gold skirt's pupil if you will, is as big as a tip of a pin. and doesn't get any bigger. Plus the food can fall on the blind side, and they don't see it, but if it falls on the other side they gobble it up, so I'm sure they aren't seeing it. I was hoping once they got rid of the pop eye for a while, which has been many months, they would have gotten back to normal.. How often does getting blind from that happen?

don't know what to tell you on that one Sherry - I "inhereted" Pirate, a siver dollar many years ago - he passed away a few months ago - he was blind in one eye. thus the name Pirate - he lived over 5 yars and was very healthy - whether or not pop eye caused his problem, I can't say for sure but I know what you mean about it changing their eating habits - fish also have a sense of smell, try some frozen brine shrimp - even a one eyed fish knows where that is! good luck hon and sorry to hear of their misfortune

unfortunately if they loose their eyesight from popeye, they won't get it back i had a balloon molly, whose left eye became like a small black pinhead, and it also changed her eating habits but just like murdock's, mine lived for another 1 1/2 years with me

when the bad damage is done from popeye it often will cause blindness. but....blindness doesnt mean the end. fish rely on many other seses as well...and as mentioned...smell is oneof them. as well they sense movement too. the other fish go into a feeding frenzy...the blind one knows. just look at pirhanna fry. they often eat each others eyes....but usually live long normal lives...

Pirate was well over 5 years old! and fat! but I spoiled him rotten - once a week I'd put the big net in the tank, which he hated and would go off and hide and I'd dump a whole frozen brine cube in his hidey spot

Have you tried treating for "Cloudy eye"? I forget what the name of it is really called. My Betta got pop eye and after the swelling went down I had to treat for that...her eye was very cloudy...it went away (hoping they are not truly blind ). Just a though
