ME!! I went to Petco today to see if they had the betta leaf hammock I saw in TFH magazine. Well, they didn't have any of those, but I did manage to talk myself into a new betta. I'm such a sucker for these guys in their crappy little cups! Anyway, here he is. I had a hard time deciding between this guy and a very pretty red and white halfmoon, but ultimately, the smaller pricetag won. Pay no attention to the ancient teddy bear and Minnie Mouse... Just out of curiosity, I checked the ammonia levels in his cup when I got him home. The poor guy was stuck in ammonia of 1.0!! I acclimated him to the new water for a little over an hour, so hopefully he's not in too much shock at having ammonia free water.

Very pretty Betta Stephanie! Sort of a pastel gold color I wouldn't worry too much about ammonia acclimation when going the direction of less, fish can tolerate a pretty fast lowering of ammonia; it is pH (up or down) that should be adjusted slowly. Carl

It's sad that he was stuck in a cup with such high ammonia. But he's very lucky that he's in your hands now. I'm sure you will take excellent care of him. He is a beauty. You rarely see a yellow betta although they are becoming more common.

As it is, I got "yelled" at by my mom for setting up another tank. (The new guy is in the old 1.5 gal) She said that I'm not allowed to go to any pet stores without her anymore. She wasn't there yesterday to talk me out of buying him! But a good friend of mine was available via text message to talk me into him! She's also in trouble with my mom, lol.

My mom's the same way. Whenever I get a new tank, she gets really worried that about me expanding more in the future and water spilling ont the floor. And when I got 2 male guppie sand told her I was going to breed them a few months ago, she got really worried. I'm sure get over it eventually. Who would be able to resist your beautiful new betta for long?

That is a seriously gorgeous fish! I've never seen a betta that color. I would have bought him, too. My husband would probably roll his eyes at me, but we'd have the betta just the same.

Thanks everyone!
He's still pretty shy. If I approach the tank too quickly, he hides behind the filter. I thought he'd be more settled by now. He's really going to hate me when I change his water today!

nice. from the pictures i saw no odd colord speckles that you find in some of the lighter colorerd bettas. i call them the ugly betta freckles. but this one seems to be solid as solid gets with a irredecent accent color on the tail. very pretty! thumbs up in my book!

Awesome Carl! I'll definitely be ordering a couple of them! I just have to do some inventory and see if there's anything else I need so I can be a little practical with shipping costs.
I'm guessing they're as neat in person as they look online or else you probably wouldn't have bought them, am I right?

Thanks! I know what you mean about the speckles. My light pink female VT has a few of those, but this guy doesn't. Now if I can just convince him to eat on a regular basis, I'd be really happy!

I'm guessing they're as neat in person as they look online or else you probably wouldn't have bought them, am I right? My opinion of them is they are a great idea, for very little money. However I would not go so far as to say that they were awesome either. I would use this example: For the $1.99 I can sell them for they are a good idea that is worth while using, however if they cost $10, they would be a little too much for what you get if you follow my reasoning.
