I'm going to start with the Melanotaenia boesemani/
Boeseman's Rainbowfish.

This fish is at risk due to over-harvesting for the aquarium trade. It is native to Indonesia. The export of this fish is ceasing, which puts pressure for captive bred specimens.

This is a schooling fish, so best kept in groups of 5 or more. They get rather large...up to 4 inches. It is best kept with tank mates larger than an inch. This is an aggressive eater, so make sure the tank mates get a chance to eat. They accept a wide variety of foods.

How about Glossolepis incisus/Red Rainbowfish?

Also from Indonesia, the classification for this species is either Vunerable or At risk, depending on the source.

This fish is best kept in an aquarium of more than 40 gallons. A heavily planted, well lit tank is best. Ph of 7.2-8.0, and a temperature of 75 to 82 degrees is recommended. A varied diet diet is always a good idea, but this fish is not difficult to feed.

Breeding is best done in groups of one male to 2 or more females, in groups of at least 5.

As far as the boesemani go I also think that it is generally excepted that it needs a tank that is at least four feet long as they like a good "run" before having to turn. I have two of these and am trying to talk my husband into dedicating a bigger tank to them with a larger school for breeding. My only concern is having an outlet for fry. I am going to put out feelers for this with my local LFS's before I begin.
