I recently lost Pirate, my old silver dollar - unfortunately, I had to euthanize him......long story, won't go into details.....trouble is, he was so big, my tank looks empty without him and my male yellow lab is lost without his buddy - I also have a large golden female gourami in there (4") and was thinking of adding my large blue female gourami that is the same size (also 4") into that tank - think there'll be a war? am also considering moving my male lab in w/ th other 2 "unknown sex" yellow labs which are the same age but considerably smaller under the assumption that thay are both females - bold move maybe - any thoughts? the smaller labs are mabe 3" long, the male is well over 4" and has twice the body vulume - experienced input would be greatly appreciated - thanks

sorry i didn't answer earlier, i was still thinking about it
the gouramis can work out or not, it's really hard to say with those
as for the yellows, if they're the same age and 2 of them are way smaller then the other one, then the chance is there that you have females
if it where me, i would most likely risk it just make sure you do it when it's light out and try to rearange your tank decor

gold gourami not happy about new tank mate - chase scene going on....was kind of hoping it would be smoother....have to wait and see - still ponderng the lab thing, am leaning towards what you suggested just haven't had the nerve.....found my missing silver hatchet - fried out on the gray carpet! must have inadvertantly netted him with the big net when I removed my silver dollar......some days......

Sorry John that you lost both your old friend Silver Dollar and your Hatchet.
My thoughts on the Gouramis is it is certainly worth a try, however I have found that adult Gouramis in small numbers, especially that have not been reared together will no tolerate each other well, although this is worse with the Dwarf gouramis in my experience.
Is it possible to get another Silver Dollar or similar larger Tetras?
Carl

the iffy thing is over I think w/ the gouramis - as time passes, they are seeming to become more tolerant, well, the gold one has become less territorial let's say.....I absolutely 100% agree w/ the dwarf gourami philosophy though - they fight and maim! still debating on the lab issue - time for a water change on both african tanks so......maybe a major cave overhaul too on one of them - will remove all fish and then reintroduce them all together and see how that goes w/ Plan B to put the large male back if necessary....
