I just purchased A Eheim professional 2 external canister filter. Was wondering if anyone has used one? Anything I should know before hooking it up? Says 77 gal. max. Will I be able to just use it and take both my Aqua clears 70 off, after its cycled? Oh and its brand new in the box, Lady needed money so I only paid $40.00 ;D ;D

Eheim has a tendency to under rate their filters (which is certainly better than over rating!), so this is an excellent filter for any tank under 75 gallons. You might consider removing one of your Aqua Clear 70 filters, however if only for the safety of filter redundancy, I would keep one running as a compliment/back up to this Eheim. As well, allow at least 6 weeks for the Eheim to cycle. Carl

what an amazing deal.....when I grow up I want that filter quite badly. eheim makes great canisters....right from their smallest to their largest. Carl is right about that filter being under rated. in the maintenance trade we often used just that filter on 120 gallons in near overstocked tanks. we never had a problem. it is reliable and fairly easy to get going. using used filter media in it with something like bio balls will help to ready this filter for use.btw....i`ll give ya 70$ plus postage for that filter...they retail for around 250$ here in canada.

Good offer there Bill! Almost tempted! That's about what these filters run here too, heavy mother it is. Cost a small fortune to ship, I would think? Carl...that's a great picture, I can see how it all goes together. So if I decide to keep it I can put my bio balls from the AC 70 in the chambers? Eve, sorry I put this question in the wrong place I will learn. sometime soon I hope...

Yes, you can, this would really jump start the bio capabilities of this filter.

Wow, what a nice filter! Carl, is the picture you posted of the inside or outside? Either way, it looks like it's one heck of a filter. Very interesting make.

Very interesting make. the picture is both the outside and the inside of the filter. It simply shows how the filter fits together on the inside. Interesting part is although this is a good filter, this inside design is exactly the same as many other canister filters, such as the Via Aqua 750 which sells for more than 1/2 the price and the company is better about returns as well (Eheim makes a good product, but their return policy sucks IMO, which is why I stopped selling them) Via Aqua 750 canister filterCarl

Wait, I have seen a filter like that before. My Cascade filter looks a lot like that inside.
It just dawned on me, the picture is displaying the parts before they are put into the actual Eheim filter, kind of a stretched out way of showing it I guess. Now I get it. Before I thought all those pieces were piled on top of each other which would make for a pretty elaborate filter. Sorry for the confusion.
