good afternoon all. Had an awesome day off today!!!! Believe it or not i found a female vieja synspila right around the same size as what I just lost. Imagine the luck. she is showing almost no color.someone at the pet shop cranked the oxygen in a tank. she was very badly affected by this "oxygen intoxication". they immediately moved her into another tank where she was beaten up in her weakened state....but now she is upright again and hopefully is on her way to a full recovery. they gave me a 2 week money back guarentee as well if i can`t bring her back; but i am confident i will be able to....
as well as this purchase, I bought a male astatotilapia latifasciata, better known as a zebra obliquiden. beautifully colored. not a huge fan of vics, but the temperment will go nice in my tank.
The best part is, I got them both for $30.00. wish my new vieja luck and i will post pics soon....

Well I guess I don't have to get that pair now LOL, but if you can't find a male yet again, like I told you on the phone Bill, I could always get you a male here and grow him out for you.
The Obliquedin male might not show the same colorings as if females were in the tank, but I probably wouldn't think adding a female for him would be good, because he may decide to take it out on your Trawerse if he wants to breed, BUT you will see the red and yellow in the body heighten very much. Females of the Zebra's are also very tough ladies and even care for broods actively for a good 2 months after free swimming.

just an update....finished the acclimation drip and released her. saw a side of her i havent seen at the fish store. she is also suffering hole in the head.....not terrible, but its still there. unfortunately, i have no way to isolate her so i treated the tank for hith at 75% dosage. right now she is hiding. I`ll put up pix when she is up and about...

thats a bummer about the illness. and not being able to isolate. great job on trying to save her. i looked up some pictures of healthy ones very beautiful fish. hope she turns out great! you may wanna call the pet store and inform them of the condition you may not even need to return the dead fish to get your money back they really aren't supposed to sell you fish that are on deaths door, or that should be quarantined they normally shut those lights on the tanks down or put not for sale sign infront of them.
again best of luck and hope all goes well with the new purchase.
beautiful fish! cant wait to see the the pictures you post.

lol.....you are all going to get sick of this post. she is now up and swimming and no longer is white like she was at the store, altho she isnt showing her true colors yet. she has become very dark....but being active is a great start....
and thanx carl....i have treated the tank with metro....if that doesnt help i will try the metro soaked food. we`ll get her all fixed up.

she wasnt actually for sale. i know the manager well. he is a zoologist. 5 degrees in zoology. he said i was the only one he`d sell her to. thats why he gave me the deal he did...he just wanted to give her a fighting chance...

I'm so glad that you found a new vieja! I was so sad that you lost the other one, I know how much you loved her. I hope that you can fix this one up soon so she will color up for you. And maybe now you can find a boy and get some fry.

well....just an update here and a lil more news. the vieja is slowly getting better. she is swimming around a lil now, but still not eating. now....some new news....made another purchase today which has put me past capacity in the tank. bought a 12" male 7 bar frontosa. pretty healthy but a hole in his tail, but already trying to fix it. he is showing his head hump quite nicely as well. he is far from the prettiest specimen i have seen....but i think he`s gorgeous. i added pix to my photobucket account.unfortunately, i can`t seem to seperate the album. he is on page 1 and page 10 and 11. there are also pix of the vieja. she is very beaten up looking.....so i am hoping we will all be presently surprised in a month or so when she is all better (fingers crossed). have a look.... s160.photobucket.com/albums/t194/bikeguy33/?start=0
