my black skirt Tetra, looks like it has swollen nostrals?? Or a white circle around the holes, Plus the right eye is blurry, and the puple is very small , kinda like a pin head. I dipped it in methaline Blue one time and know I have to do it again, But I was reading some of the articles that Carl had put on the site, about Medications, and it says to use something else, I guess my question is... Do I need to use that stuff, or will Methaline dips do the trick?

I'm not sure what it is. My guess is something bacterial. Also, does it look like something is growing on his nose, like fuzzy or anything? Sorry i do not know more. How are th otehr fish doing and water are your parameters? It's a 14 gallon right?

as renee stated...it is tough to give more than just a guess....it sounds more like a fungal infection....but without more info and/or pics it is tough to diagnose. add all you can...

I prefer to start with the Methylene Blue & salt baths as these are relatively safe, yet are often reasonably effective and do not interfere with your tank environment. Methylene Blue or Potassium Permanganate can be added to the eye/affected areas directly as well with a cotton swab. A Melafix/Pimafix combination is relatively safe to add to your aquarium if you feel the bath is not effective. Finally if this problem proves to be difficult to treat with the previously described mild methods, you may be dealing with an Aeromonas infection (improving water conditions help for this too) or a Streptococcus infectionFor Aeromonas; Nitrofurazone or Triple sulfa may help for an in tank or hospital tank treatment. Erythromycin may be necessary for Streptococcus infections, it should be noteworthy that Erythromycin is very hard on bio filters, so back up bio filtration is recommended while using Erythromycin. I have treated him/ her? (still dont know the sex of them.) But anyway gave three different MB baths, Now nostrils look normal, but now he looks blind in one eye the pupil is very small like a pin tip, I did add a little melafix to the whole tank. other fish seem just fine, I couldnt ask for better water parameters, No ammonia, weirdest things happen in my tank. My tetra's do seem like their lateral lines are red..?? I can see it through their skin, black and golds..... have put a gold and black skirt in MB a few times to see if that would go away but they are still red. Like they were burnt at one time, and that could have been when I added that prime and killed my cardnials in 0-5 secs, and also almost lost one of my gold skirts, im sure ya'll remember my panic attack that time... But other then loosing my cards all ended well, but I do think that red is what it is from like I burnt their gills and stuff. Is that possible?
