I know that long stringy poop is a symptom of something but for the life of me I cannot remember what exactly. My common pleco has really long stringy poop, and I mean really long, all the way across the tank and that's like four feet. Any help would be appreciated.

#1 he's eating too much other than algae IMO - you might be overfeeding your fish....

Another possibility is it could be internal parasites. I'm not sure though. My fish occasionally have odd looking waste but don't seem to have any problem with internal parasites.

What did he eat? I know that if I feed my fish zucchini, then they get long zucchini-looking poop aftewards. Sometimes I think it's just a matter of eating too much. When I had the algae problem in my tank, the platies were always nibbling at it and always had really long poos!

Lately with all the treatments that I have been putting in that tank I have not been putting in any extra vegetables for the pleco. In the morning I put three catfish wafers in there for the loaches and they eat them up and that's all they get for the day right now. The pleco never comes out to eat at that time of day. I have been giving him one algae wafer that I put in the tank right before I turn out the lights for the night. I fed him the same amount when he was in the smaller tank and he was much smaller. I don't think that he is being overfed. The poop is white and translucent and then every few inches it has a small section that looks like normal green pleco poop.

This is the much blighted 38g tank. So only the two clown loaches are in the tank. One is about four inches long and the other is about about three inches long. The pleco is around five to six inches long.

you may not be overfeeding.....but both Renee and john came up with very possible scenarios. often when the poop is long like that, the pleco is getting to much of the other fish food. they are vegetarians and when they eat meat products they have no way of properly digesting it so it comes out as being really long like that. before treating for parasites tho.....cut back on the food by like 30% and see if that makes a difference....do this for maybe a week or so and your fish will all be okay with the reduced diet.
