Grrr I'm back She was like this yesterday. So I checked the water, everything was fine. Did 12 gal water change. Caught her and did a MB bath for 30 minutes. Put in a medicated wonder shell Hope I did OK? She still has fuzz this morning Also one long string coming off from it. Thank You for any help... Also one of the males has been off a bit, not his horny self Plus having long stringy poop, any ideas?

This almost looks like an injury or a loose flap of tissue. This may also be some Saprolegnia that grew after an injury as well. I am not positive from what I can see in this video. HOWEVER, I think you are following a good process of treatment. Consider using an eye dropper so as to add a drop of Methylene Blue directly on this area before adding to the bath water. As for your male the long stringy poop his more difficult to both treat and diagnose; sometimes this can simply be dietary irritation and will pass, other times it can be an indicator of internal Aeromonas bacteria or an internal parasite (nematode). Metronidazole may be a good start for this. Carl

Thanks Carl I was hoping I was doing OK, went to one of your articles and it kind of looked like Saprolegnia, so I started MB baths, will try to drop some on her today, thank she needs a shave ;D Doesn't seem to want to eat either. As for the male, guess I will wait and see is he gets better?

You might give the male a few days and watch for other symptoms. The Medicated Wonder Shell that is already in there may help for him as well, so might the baths, as well as water changes (which often help just by themselves with some problems by improving Redox and more so that the fish naturally can battle infections)

Once my guppies had this. They are pretty closelt related to platies and mine had similar symtoms. It sounds like it may be cotton wool or Saprolegnia. It sounds lik either of the two to me. It sounds like you're doing the right thing for treatment.

Well the fuzz cleared up on the platy, don't think shes eating yet? Think it was from a bite from another fish? The male platy was dead when I woke this morning Had gave him 3 MB baths, but I know he had not ate for at least 3 days..Thinking maybe platys not the fish for me? Maybe I should stay with my Goldy's?

Sorry to read about your male, but his stringy poop indicated internal issues as well that are more difficult to treat (Medicated Wonder Shells) are not very effective for internal infections (although they can help for som mild internal problems). At least your girl is clearing up, even if she is not eating. Increase your salt to 1 teaspoon per 1 gallon as well. Also trys and "suspend" the food in the water by sinking it right by her. As to keeping platys, your male likely came with this problem and the "fuzz" is indicative of an opportunistic pathogen and this may have been from previous water conditions before you purchased her. What I am saying is I would not look at this as a reason to not attempt keeping Platys. Carl
