Here is an interesting video that deal with the human use of Methylene Blue.
Interestingly, the vlogger noted the importance of Redox recycling (what AAP's Redox article refers to as "balance".
The AAP article and research has been on the cutting edge of this research now for decades, long before the internet and certainly products promoted to aid in this. Of late social media has allowed/promoted hit job websites such as "aquariumscience.org" that attacks AAP's author and article and makes many provably false factual claims against this author and article.

Quote from above article:
“It is noteworthy that despite attacks by websites with obviously little experience in professional aquarium keeping (such as aquariumscience DOT org), that the Calcium ions (Cations) are indeed reducing agents and that my experiments and experience over the years have shown that product such as AAP Wonder Shells lose this Cation "charge" over time and why the purchase of fresh Wonder Shells is essential for full benefits (and yes, my experience has shown that indeed oxidative stress affects fish as well as other life).
In fact as per aquariumscience.org claims of pseudo science, they use typical "ad hominem" attacks such as the marketing of products at inflated prices.
Sorry but this research predates these products, as does the posting online. As well, this website immediately invalidates their attacks by stating the ingredients of Wonder Shells to include sodium thiosulfate, which even some remedial research would show they do not contain this ingredient.
Another point this website makes in this hit job, is that Aquarium Redox is promoted as a remedy to most, if not all aquarium problems when at most, in the many articles here at AAP, Aquarium Redox (including rH) is promoted as a piece of the aquarium keeping puzzle, that in many instances, the aquarium keeper is already maintaining without even knowing it.
Finally as per the ad hominem attack that includes "inflated prices", actually the prices for Wonder shells & UV sterilizers are very competitive and the TMC Vecton Titan UVs are well established and proven to be the most efficient and durable making these an excellent value (a little research here would go a long ways too)”
