Hello!
I use my tap water to supply my fish tanks. The paramaters are typically as follows:
Ammonia: 0.5ppm - 1ppm Nitrite: 0 - .05 ppm Nitrate: 2 ppm Chlorine/Chloramine: 0 pH 7.8 gH 150 ppm kH 100 ppm
The tank itself typically tests:
Ammonia: 0ppm - .5ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: 2.5 - 5 ppm
Chlorine/Chloramine: 0
pH 7.8
gH 150 ppm
kH 100 ppm
For about a month while I was treating fin rot the ammonia in the tank was testing at 0ppm with 5ppm nitrates. But then I had to remove one of the three filter medias to treat with Sulfaplex. My nitrates dropped to 2.5 right away. After finishing the Sulfaplex treatment, I now have ammonia sitting closer to .5ppm in the tank with no new nitrates (still about 2.5 ppm).
Do you have any suggestions for handling ammonia in the water source? Have I crashed the cycle? I am not sure how to move forward.

Sorry for the late reply (I was out of town and apparently others missed your question). Sulfa meds rarely crash the cycle, so I do not think you have a problem. I would suggest a 25% water change along with AAP/SeaChem Prime followed by AAP/Seachem Stability
