I set up a 50 gallon garden pond yesterday. Pump and fountain are working great. I put the blue algae chemical in it. I also have two water lollies in it. I know from having an indoor fish tank that cycling and building bacteria is crucial for fish survival. My question is, Is there anything I can do to build the bacteria faster so I can add fish sooner?

And I have added mulch around the pond/in the flower beds since picture was taken

And I just tested my water parameters and all are in safe/ideal zone.

I love it.. I have had mine for about 6 years now, so worth the effort.

That a great article thank you for sharing it. It helped almost with all my questions, but I've got one left. Can you recommend any good aerator and is it really THAT necessary? Cause I came across tones of reviews (like this one for example) but I can't figure out which one to take.

Cause I came across tones of reviews (like this one for example) but I can't figure out which one to take. I don't know a brand, but I would make sure it's rated for the depth of the pond. The depth determines how much pressure is on the pump. I think they are needed in many cases. If your just needing o2, any water movement helps. The air is great for keeping things floating, so they can make it over to the filter.

Hey all, looks like found a quite similar thread, I just bought a 120 gallon (60"length,24"height and 18" width) would a fluval fx6 be enough/too much, and would I need any other type of filters at all? On the internet I have found this site suggesting about filters but I guess my gallon if little different. What do you think? New to this board and would be open to suggestions
